Help!! Deciding between Patek 5712 v. 5990

I am deciding between a Patek 5712-1A (steel band, blue dial) (for around 55,000) v. 5990 (still band, gray dial) (for around 65,000). I can afford both but am having a really hard deciding which. Any advice?

Whoever is quoting you $55k is ripping you off. They go for $44-$46 pre-owned and around $48-$49k BNIB

Thank you all. I think I can get these prices 2000 down.

Where can I can 5990 with a few month wait? The two authorized distributors in NY told me today that it would be 2-4 years +, and the Patek store in paris doesn’t even take names for waitlist anymore.

In 2-3 years, MSRP may very well be approaching 50K.....

I’m wondering the same thing...if anyone has a line on where it might be possible to get one from an AD with a sub 2yr wait time I’d certainly appreciate the heads up.

5990 every day of the week! The offset text on the 5712 looks silly IMHO but regardless a Patek complication should win hands down...

I own both and have a slight favoritism for the 5990. The 5712 has the PR-- which I like. Moon phase is a pain to set if not a daily wearer and not useful. I do use the chrono once in a while.. GMT is great for traveling across the various ponds.. I admit that when i travel i generally go with the 5164. Just so comfortable and flies under the radar

It doesn’t get much better than the 5712. Power reserve, moon phase, thin case, the stunning 240 movement and one of the most interesting dials ever made (which looks totally balanced despite its asymmetric layout).

5712 - Gorgeous blue dial, original slim Nautilus profile and more interesting 240 micro rotor movement.

5712 for beauty and looks
5990 for water proof and functionality

Thanks all. After much deliberation, I ended up purchasing the 5712. Brand new unworn, 2018, papers, box: $53,000, which was the best price I could find in NYC after talking to at least 15 resellers and researching everywhere, including on Chrono24.

The prices have certainly blown up in the last 6 months.

Enjoy it in good health. Price is water under the bridge.

i prefer the 5990, but a 5990 at retail vs a 5712 at secondary is it really a choice?

Yep. As someone who is a fan of the 5990 and finds the 5712 one of their least favourite, it’s hard to comprehend.
