Red Submariner - Luminous material on hands

Does anyone have a macro shot of what the luminous material on the hands of a red sub should look like? Is it generally the same as the lume plots on the dial (textured), or should it be smoother and glossy? Sorry for the noob question, I tried to find the answer but I'm coming up empty handed.

The luminous material in the hands should look approximately the same as the material on the dial. I'd be careful of anything that has a glossy or "wet" look to it, as this can be a sign of a poor re-lume job.

There is often a waffle-like texture to the tritium on the hour plots that will not be present on the hands, mainly because the surface area is much smaller on the hands. The hands should be fairly smooth in texture and matte, like on my '72 5512. (Note the different texture on the hour plots.)

Can you post a photo of the dial/hands in question? And by the way, it's not specific to red Subs. Rolex would have used the same technique on other models too.

Thanks for the replies and the pictures guys, this is very helpful. I think I'm feeling a bit better about what I'm seeing here. I tried to take some pictures with my phone but this is the best I could get. Let me know what you think.

Looks fine , right down to the original hairlines creeping in !!

A good way to look is with a UV loupe , you'll see during that period tiny crystals of luminous particles and it should be same on hands and dial

@jedly1 and @springer - one thing i was curious about on the OP's hands was the three spokes of the mercedes symbol. Aren't they supposed to be thicker? They seem thinner than the other pictures posted and other tritium sub hands I remember but I'll defer to you. Just curious, thanks!
