Nice looking watch. I had to replace a caseback a few years ago, I think the original had been cross threaded or overtightened and it didn’t secure properly. Fortunately the thread on the case was fine but the back was messed up.

Great looking gilt gmt you have there.

I love the faded insert on your gmt, look so nice on you. Look similar with mine... cheers

Dear mineral,

Mine is not a Gilt. Just a matte mk1. I love your insert too!

Replacement case back, replacement insert, rough handling by (watchmaker) which bits do we think are gorgeous as you put it, Franken by any other name.

Not many watches make it this long without seeing some work. As long as the parts are factory Rolex and appropriate for the model, this would not be referred to as Franken. He still has the original insert and the faded one is a cosmetic, legit option.

Fastfreddie, you are entitled to your opinion but do not try to force it down the throat of others.

If you are not the original owner, who can guarantee each watch components is pure original? Changing parts during service, does it means it's franken too?

Get real and get realistic.

Chows99 hyped or what. Did say that he wanted franken opinions about his gorgeous watch even the replacement back looks a little suspect, if you don’t want answers don’t ask searching questions.

Whoa! A little harsh, no? I disagree with your assessment. OK, so this stunning GMT has a couple of replaced parts, which are genuine Rolex, and has been worked on through the decades by watchmakers. So what. Of course it has. It’s old! That certainly does not make it a so-called Franken-watch.

Blah and blah you are just beating up an old tune. You can say all you want and most vintage watches out there are franken based on your narrow opinion. From most of the feedback, it seems you are the king's clothes.

I am just gonna enjoy my gorgeous watch

Would love to see the service documents, receipts for the services and Rolex parts fitted to this gorgeous watch. Then I will surely regard it in a different light until then I will probably remain uncertain.
