I thought Rolex Service Centres have a stock of matte dials for replacement if needed? Someone here was even saying recently that they got a 1680 red dial replacement at a RSC. In this 5513, would Rolex really have put that dial in?

Nice choice! Lollipop Subs are tough to come by, you made out well IMO

Two of the three primary components, (case, movement, dial), have issues:

) Dial has not only been changed, but to a different generation.

) According to the photos, the case is TOTALLY polished. Without confirming case stampings, it could be of questionable origin. If case is the original, it would need to be rebrushed in appropriate areas.

No need to look any further.

Yes, all good observations.

But....that case is thick and if refinished by LAWW would be killer. Of course, if that's what the buyer wants. For a nice daily wear, you can't find a 5513 for $5k anymore. I would want better pictures, and confidence in the seller. But I wouldn't walk away.
As an aside: pictures can be very deceiving in both directions. I have a watch that, after posting photos here, was panned by several longtime members. If it hadn't been for a couple guys sending me pm's privately telling me to get the damn watch I would have missed what is one of the best examples i have seen. Just sayn

I too acquired a “problem child” 5513, because I could afford it, but the scope of work required to revive was what I thought was acceptable, and not primary components. For my limited budget, dials, cases and movements have to be correct.

BTW - Big thanks to Edvi at LAWW !

Save up and buy a great example. You will only feel almost good with that purchase.
