How long has your grail been your grail before you changed grails?

How long has your favorite, most wanted watch been that, until another took over ?

I would like to know how long has been the longest period you had a grail ?

I don't think I have acquired another watch to replace my Rolex completely. It will never be removed from my collection. However who is to say I will never find something more desirable. If it is, it would have to be something pretty special. Should that happen, then I will find out how long I have to want it, before I end up getting it. If it is available straight away, good chance I would not wait long at all.

I always do painstaking research, soul-searching, checking stores and other resources to find something similar, better, or of the same brand, just in case. 99.9% of the time, I do not change my mind. One thing is certain. I do enjoy finding a new brand that I like. Found 2 in the space of 2 months that I am so delighted to get a time piece from them to add to my rotation.

The 5740 has been a grail of mine since 2018. I got the watch in 2021 (3 years later) and since then, I don't have a new grail that I must have... until 2022 when the RRCCII was released. That watch is my new grail and I probably won't be able to get it, but a grail nonetheless.

Quite funny the 5740 and RRCCII are totally different types of watches. 1 is the offspring of an iconic design while the other is a finishing extraordinaire in a 3 hander.

Grail for me means something unobtainable monetarily at the time, but in the future could be a possibility.

As a teenager I aspired to own my first swiss automatic watch, but I was not in a position to at the time. I had no 'grail' as such, but I had certain brands in mind at the time that I thought in time I could own.

By the time my teens were well behind me I realized I was in a position to own one of those watches I had originally aspired to. The only problem was I felt that the brands and what they offered were no longer my style.

The first watch I bought was in some ways my retrospective grail watch as a teenager.

I have a modest collection within my means. Each watch I've purchased has been more expensive within the realm of which I can realistically own.

Each one I've marked a milestone in my life, and monetarily each time is a grail over the previous one, because I never imagined I'd be in the position to own any of them if I look back.

I have thought about grail watches in the past. Thought I knew what they were. Sadly as I plod along through my watch journey, I believe they do not exist.

The watch I've most desired for all my adult life is a Rolex GMT-Master. In the sixties it was a 1675, and now it's a 16710 with multiple bezel inserts. I've owned both, and the 16710 will be my favorite until I croak. Nothing else comes close.

My 16710 with aftermarket BLRO ceramic insert:

If I need a more formal look, I switch to an aftermarket LN ceramic insert:

It's weird being the same age as old people.

Awesome photos Stan.

Always wanted to get a GMT. I own 2 dials with diver bezels. If only I could swap them out for a GMT alternate.

This has become bad, when each new dial I get, I tend to wear that dial much more than the others during my weekly rotation haha. Oh no.

Hmmmm, never had a piece I'd decide is a single grail.

Just like there's no vehicle that 'does it all'.

It’s been a 6263 for me for a long time, at least 15 years. I couldn’t afford it 15 years ago, now i don’t want to afford it . Even when newsman’s were relatively cheap (compared to today) they were out of my league.
