Just a comment on the new member. He originally put that watch on eBay and did not know the value of that watch. A member on this forum contacted him and informed him on what he had. If you look at his older post you will see some of the story.

A $100k is around the $90k USD and £58k Sterling.

I'm not an expert on the rarity of different dials but I've seen three DRDS sold UK Ebay between £16-20k from reputable sellers in the last few months.

That's creditable Kyle.

Personally, I'd take a more pragmatic approach.

Prices pulled out the ***

I saw one and almost bought it at high end auction (not the online one) with complete papers and it went for US$30K or so. I threw in a bid for US$25K and did not get it. The one from auction was in excellent - near mint condition.

Really? You wouldn't happen to have any links to those auctions would you?

No, they're completed auctions and Ebay's search facility only goes back 15 days now.

This one is current though, £12,500 at present.

It looks like he is planning to take the highest offer. He listed a price since it was a rule for posting, but plans to sell it to the highest 'bidder' on TRF.

I still don't understand how the guy hasn't posted updated pictures. Everyone has a camera today, even on most cell phones. He posts 100x100 resolution pictures. A tagged photo with a name and today's date at least, especially if he expects to sell it for the amount of money they go for.

Something just doesn't seem 100% right.

You could probably request for more pictures. I see he's using the attachment button, not using a hosting site like photobucket.

I get all the auctions by Bonham's by mail. I don't think any of the auctions are online. I know I had to go through a registration and vetting process. I am sure anyone can get into their mailing list.

Get the fine jewelry and timepieces auction catalog. Christies and Sotheby's also have similar offerings but again none of them are online and you have to preregister and approve. That said, I've not heard of anyone being declined.

There is also a very reputable estate sales company in the SF Bay Area... I missed out on a vintage PP 3 weeks ago. They publish items online but it's a face-to-face thing. Their latest one does not have watches though... http://finesf.com/upcoming-estate-sales/

Rolex insists on changing the case back and wants to change the dial. how can the watch hold original value if this is done?

Personally if a transaction is over $15K, it's worth a short plane ride for me and I agree if it's a $100K transaction, seller should deliver... but that's just my opinion.

I don't think it would hold value if the caseback and dial are changed.

I'd send it Bob Ridley if it's real and have him do a proper "restoration".

Bonham's holds their sales in NY, LA, SF, London, HK... I only go the SF one.

But what is "proper restoration"? If a genuine Rolex dial has been refinished Rolex will not work on it. This watch is well over 30 years old I'm surprised Rolex would even consider servicing.

I would like to see what Rolex USA says about the watch; I'll bet it would cost much more for them to do the job; much, much more.

You could buy a mint DRSD "Patent pending" box and papers for less than that
