Seeing one live won't change your opinion of it, it really is nothing special - mainly just hype.

I own a BLNR, a Sea-Dweller from 2005, and a 5164A. The only redundancy I see is between the two travel time/GMT complications. Beyond that, the trio is materially different from each other. If I had two modern steel Rolex or two 5 digit cases, I might feel different. At that point, they're all just subs dressed up slightly differently ;)

Never owned a Patek. Was also many times tempted to make the step, but always gave up. I do admire the marketing and craftsmanship they have, but once I read through the forum and I start asking myself why should I be doing it. So many people complain of quality issues, aftersale service and engineering as strange as it may sound. Read many horrible stories how soft bezel is and unlike Rolex it is irreplaceable. So many, people admire Patek, just because of the brand? Is this so, or am I wrong? While speaking of craftsmanship, it is as good as people say, but once you see Lange there is nothing else to compare it with! Such a finesse and detail. I sometimes wonder how that is possible to be done in such a minute detail!

@OP:

Out of those two. Daytona for sure. I'm a lover of both brands, but Patek has really stepped it up for me. It's a different class of "stealth wealth", when it comes to their sports collection, granted you can get your hands on a steel watch.

For Precious Metals both Rolex and Patek make serious pieces in their sports collection. 5980/1R vs 116508. Both heavy hitters, however, I think the Pateks come out on top with the biggest "FU"-middle-finger in your face.

Its called the honeymoon period my friend. I felt a little like you when I got the smurf. After a while it felt heavy and the polished center links scratched easily with the softness of white gold. No matter what I did the clasp would get scratched. Its like a batman or Daytona PCL but x5 easier to scratch. After 6 months of ownership I concluded I cannot do a PM bracelet. Then I put on my nautilus and all was good in the world.

Sorry man, that was my path and true feelings lol :)

:::)))) the scratching part is true, my daytona YG green dial also looks bad after 10 days of wearing it. but my5711R is scratched as well and i only wore it a few times.
ps: try a 5740, it probably gets scratched by looking at it::))

I might try to get a gold daytona at some point. That looks like a fun watch.

Can we see what a scratched up YG Green Dial Daytona looks like? It’s still worth it, is my guess. It’s a fantastic watch.
