Nice threesome! Your collection has changed a lot since you started this thread. Thanks for sharing. Watching this thread progress, I am inspired, but I cannot see myself with only three! But, if I could only have three, yours would do the trick!
Congrats!

So you finally got rid of the Hulk huh!?
I love this thread, so many nice pieces, it’s always enjoyable to see what you decide on, especially because I’m also a proponent of 3-4 pieces maximum. Cheers my friend! |

Very nice, Jorge. I get what you are doing, moving to more sport-oriented watches. But I actually prefer the 5170G and 5164R. I can understand how the 5164R could scratch easily though. And I've never seen the 5990 live, just in pics. I have the AP forged carbon diver, which I really like - but it's quite a bit lighter and smaller than your ROO (the rose and ceramic look fantastic). I think you like chronographs! :-)
I wish I could narrow it down to three or four that I would like! :-) Thank you for all your thoughts as you progress with your collection. By the way, if you don't mind, how long did you have the 5164R and 5170G? |

Wowzers - what a 3 piece trio.
I think we likely share a similar philosophy to our collections, although yours is somewhere between 7-23 levels higher than mine. I'm looking for a diversity of wearable pieces, across different brands, and really trying to keep the collection at 3-4. Love what you've done. |

Great post, and I'm currently on that journey. I'm going through phase 3 at the moment!!
After rationalising the collection massively and getting rid of watches is outgrown, my plan a couple of years ago was to end up with: - SpeedMaster - Sea Dweller - Royal Oak - Nautilus But I have been sidetracked and currently have: - SpeedMaster - Sea Dweller - Royal Oak Silver Dial - Royal Oak Blue Dial - Royal Oak Offshore Diver - Daytona 116500 - Daytona 116519 OF - JLC Reverso And I've ordered the new GMT BLRO just to add to the chaos!! I think this is just a phase I have to go through and I have got them all at a good price so I should broadly break even when I finally trim down the collection. What I trim the collection down to remains to be seen, but when I eventually get to the front of a queue for a 5990 (bear in mind I've not managed to get on a queue yet!) I will have to make my mind up, because at that point I will go down to four. I then want to spend the rest of my days enjoying what I have and bonding with the watches (sounds odd, but I'm sure people here understand). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

how many times we (at least me) buy saying this is it and then turns out that is not. watches like 5170 are beautiful but not the best to deal on current market. So I am just being realistic and buying watches that I like and that I won't be killed later on. Maybe 9 months and 6 months not sure Sorry bro can't deal with Nautis or Aquas on PM, they will suffer or I will suffer. Not fun for me Quote:

Jorge, despite our differences of opinion on the other thread I do appreciate this post very much. It's a really great documentary of the evolution of a collection, change of tastes, change of trends, thoughts on value and so on.
And no question you have a fantastic threesome. And I do agree 100% with your view that these are three that you won't get killed on later on, something I think about a lot. |

Out of curiosity, if you are "forced" to keep only 3, which will you keep?

Great collection, Jorge! For as “big” as the 5990 is, it sure looks “small” next to the Daytona C, which is not a big watch by any stretch.

I think you are partially right , those 3 watches are the ones I wear the most and all of those have Ceramic bezels. Nautilus is a watch that I have to ask myself in what kind of activities I’ll be involved during the day before I decide to put it on my wrist and don’t forget wrist awareness ; all that translates in less chances to wear it. So probably Ceramic bezels help , but I am sure the scratch magnet characteristics of the Nautilus has the biggest influence. It’s a great watch but you have to accept its limitations, once you do that you can cope with it or not. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So you are saying that 5170P is not a dress watch ? Sorry but it is. I would love to be the case that dress watches were still alive. But unfortunately the demand for them is very little. We as true WIS can recognize Haute horology and have appreciation for them. But the reality is different, sad but true. I am not wealthy enough to pay 79k (like 5170p) on a watch that has little market at best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Conversion from hoarding all brands to Patek
Quote:
A lot of dress watches can be dress down, but people don’t want even that. They want a bracelet (or rubber straps) with sport characteristics. 5170P is far away from that. That doesn’t mean you can’t buy it and enjoy it , is a beautiful watch , but cut your loses before hand. 5170P will follow the same path as 5170G. Production numbers for the 5070 are the direct opposite to the ones for 5170 reference. Don’t see the 5170 following the same path as 5070. IMHO of course Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

as you say the trend to bracelet/rubber strap is surely there but i want at least one watch on a leather strap. going high end and buying at the right price is possibly the best way of hedging against big depreciation. |
