Honestly I hate to say this but it sounds about right for Patek these days.

Piss off some of your best clients and underwhelm the rest

I would hope you are wrong but the proof will be in the releases. I would not mind a nice re release of a 5980. It may motivate me to chase one down.

+1

If this is true then their 40th will be quite underwhelming. As cool as the 5711/1P is this is just rehashing it for the sake of the anniversary and making it less exclusive to the people who already shelled out almost 100k for it.
I was hoping for something similar to what AP did with the Jumbo for their 40th

I'm not sure I'd like an openworked 5711, but I'd love a WG 5980.

How about a 5980G with the AR electricblue dial or maybe a Salmon dial that would be great!

I wouldn't mind a 5711G with salmon dial either similar to the 5070 london LE.

Why would they do a white gold 5980 when they already had SS with three different dial choices? I wonder if Patek even considers the Nautilus 40th a big deal. Are they going to do something every ten years. Maybe that Patek rep knows what they're doing for the 50th.

Well actually I heard from my AD's part-time receptionist that the 50th will be amazing (she does psychic reading after hours as well)--and mentioned a price increase, but not sure I believe that

and she had heard from a customer of the Patek AD (across the road as they only sell Rolex) that they also planned to reduce production by 10000 watches and maintain a level at around the mumble mumble Mark

Anyways I think we all understood the 40th will be quite underwhelming, hoping to be wrong but don't think so...

I believe Thierry Stern has mentioned several times that he doesn't want Patek to be known as a one-watch brand. So I think it is deliberate that they are not making a big deal with the Nautilus 40 year Anniversary. They had a major celebration for their 175th Anniversary not too long ago. And they quietly introduced two new models of the 5396 with Breguet numerals at Basel for the AC's 20 year Anniversary.

I believe they are reluctantly doing something for the 40th Anniversary, but it will be underwhelming because the two pieces will likely be allocated to the larger collectors and not to the general public. I understand that some will not be happy they won't be able to get their hands on one of the LE 40th Anniv pieces. But I don't think Patek is or ever will be a watch company that caters to and appeals to a larger demographics like Rolex. I am sure within the next month or two we will find out with an official release.

I can get my hands on a 40th without an issue, the bigger question is do I want to procure one?

Based upon 'heresay' the answer is no thanks.

It's another (potential) snore PP release.

Like you said let's see what comes.

Well said John... Many members here have been invited to an event on the 15th this month, if what we think is right it will be for this, and yes probably very disappointing, in any case my watch budget is cracking already, would have funds for a 40K watch, not more, and for that I would need to cancel the 5711 and Daytona I ordered, so even if I could get one I wouldn't, but I don't really mind...

There is a difference between a 5711/1p which will platinum case and leather strap and the actual 5711p which is full platinum

Almost there if you count the 5167R paid in full waiting for me at my AD in Davos, anxious to get it, a RG on rubber has been itching me for a while, but I did seriously think about getting a RM, but decided to allocate RM type money into a very different piece, a made on order unique piece from one of the great watchmakers, but it will take 1 year to make it, 10 months still to go

I ve reexplored some great pieces from my collection (LV and Daytona ),couldn t be happier, and requires zero funding:-)

Regarding the anniversary edition i think too it will be underwhelming and overpriced.

well if I reexplore pieces from my collection I have a medium size Cartier and 2 old Omegas, all way too small but kept for sentimental reasons, and a Pam 028, so won't be any reexploring on my part

Can't say I would find a P on strap very tempting, maybe the few who prefer Nautilus on strap will be happy, for me a Nautilus needs a bracelet
