I agree that 1300 is a fairly large number. If you are a true collector and want exclusivity, you would want Patek to release only 30 pieces and not 1300. If that were the case, distribution would only be via the Geneva Salon and maybe a couple of pieces going to Paris and London. However that policy would alienate the 400+ ADs that would feel left out of the 40th Anniversary of the Nautilus.

With a 1300 production number, each AD should receive at least a couple of pieces, assuming they have the customer base to support the watch. For ADs that are located in economically depressed areas, I can see some having difficulty moving a ~$100K USD watch, whether it is a special Anniversary piece or not.

It's 49.3 wide compared to 43 for a 5711 and the date looks closer to the middle and the diamond next to it makes it like a AP 15400 compared to the 15202

£70k that's great value buy considering the additional diamonds n LE compared to 5980/1R at similar price. Anyone know what's the MSRP for 5980/1R in £?

Wow...that's disappointing indeed.

No offense meant to anyone who likes it, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, I am really bummed to see that they would celebrate an anniversary of the Nautilus with a model like that. Whatever happened to keeping things simple?

Well if they really stop at 1300 watches and move on I will consider it limited still. Is it impressive and really exclusive? Not if you think that it's still 1300 out of 50 000 pieces per year (unless I am not up to date with my numbers) but that's a different story.

Everyone (should) knows that a Diamond anniversary is 60 years, not 40 – which is Ruby.

Agreed on the engraving on the dial – tacky in the extreme, especially given the price point.
