Difficult to guess but I think possibly well over 1000 have been made. Until recently every AD I know had one. Still not excessive compared to some models but excessive when compared to 175 - 200 5070Ps.

Guys, was checking out shops this afternoon and came across a brand new (named) 5170p full set for 75000 usd. Is that a good price at current context? My ad from uk wants full msrp now thanks. Difference is almost 9k usd but I get my name on. What are your thoughts. Beautiful watch in person

There is a grey one in HK already named at 76.5 but I opted for direct from AD in my name at 83. A lot more than I would have paid had my original dealer been able to deliver but not the end of the world.

Missing out on the p as I came across the 5170G 001 which I always liked and traded my 5146 towards.

Hopefully one day I can pick up a p too. So nice. On a separate note, a 5070p is coming up for sale at auction soon :).

While I mentioned this as an option, I don't think it's realistic for me with my current PP purchasing history. I mean, there are some very VVIP collectors that I know that can't get this watch.

With the introduction of the 5712G would you consider that instead? It's flying under the radar a tad but I feel that PP has a lot riding on this and as such has overhauled the line in hopes that it gains more traction. The have broken a number of self imposed traditions.

The obvious ones.

1. The choice of metal - I believe they usually introduce a J version before moving on to the Gs and then subsequently a shorter production timeline for the Ps.

2. Dial. Blue is has always been reserved for the Ps of this line. To start off batting for 8s with the first one, they are riding on the blue craze at the moment. But what's the step up from here? A salmon coloured dial?

Not so obvious (in my opinion)
3. The syringe hands which had a mostly positive reception on the 5320G and the applied luminescent numerals.

4. Larger case, strap, the stepped lugs and pushers all makes it a more modern sportier look with a tinge of vintage. Does that make sense?

5. Significantly reduced price. It's still VERY expensive but when you consider that you might get 7-10% discount from our AD this now becomes somewhat more palatable. Also does this mean that there is less in the watch or is PP taking a hair cut?

My opinion.

I like it. I've seen a few comments about the 5170 moving up in prices but it's a bit premature. I think this watch is never going to attain the mass acceptance of the Nautilus or Aquanaut but I have a cheeky feeling that it will grow on people.

This is also an indication of Patek's acceptance that 5170 was a failure. 5170 was a ''dress'' chronograph with a manually wound, in-house movement. It's a watch that you wear to time board meetings and not laps around the track.

The hands no longer matches the hands in the subdials. BUT it's a decent stab and a beautiful watch. I am suppose to pull the trigger on a 5170P today and it has made me stop to ponder for a bit.

I am not sure where this puts the 5960. Different movement and dial layout but same strap material, dial colour, case size and pushers.

Does Patek have room for 2 different but similar watches in its stables?

5170 didn’t sell well and Patek is forced to do something they almost never do, reduce price!

No, In the case of a Patek band with a tange buckle, the end with the holes is worn from 12 and tange at the 6. Seems weird, but works well because the tange opens and closes like solid case band would thus opening/closing towards you when wrist is face up (if that makes sense). Albeit people can do what ever they want...

I ordered a blue strap from Patek and it was an unexpected game changer over the black. Brings the blue dial out, while making it look relatively casual. I highly recommend it.
