Maybe after a year, you can get 5172 at a discount in the low usd 60’s. That probably wont be a bad price point.

Notnsure the movement changed...

In person, the 5170p dial has the most depth of any watch I own. I suppose second only to my APRO perp cal skeleton that ironically has no dial so it does not count

I try to sober up then Google what year it is...all joking aside, this movement is a “Quantieme” Perpetual calendar that was produced prior to AP introducing the leap year indicator. That said one mechanically programs it when ‘setting’ the date thus the watch accounts for it.

I don’t think I’ve heard someone say they don’t like a sunburst dial. Honestly shocked that’s your beef

I actually think the J will end up the most collectible years from now for multiple reasons but we shall see!

Hey Ben - the lug is 21.1 and it tapers down to 16.1 for the tang buckle. I have attached a copy of the band I ordered directly from Patek for my 5170p

I was just quoted USD1.5k for a platinum pin buckle. Do you guys have any alternatives?

Closet ( and probably cheaper ) will be WG? What's wrong with the deployant buckle that comes with the watch?

remind me why you don't want to just use the tang buckle it came with? That said I suppose you could go after market, but not my style once you get to this point (albeit a personal decision). I prefer keeping it pure to the brand. Note the pin buckle requires a different fitting/length band than for a tang.

Thanks! That's helpful. I personally don't like the glossy black strap that comes with the watch.

Happy to help. My suggestion is to go into a Patek store and have them custom order the exact band you want. I agree, the black band is too formal for me and I just think the blue band looks better on that watch.

For me the new chronographs make me appreciate the 5170 series that much more.
