I guess I don't know how many people "notice" my watches and don't say anything, but I've had maybe three comments on my Daytona in two years, and just a handful of comments on my DJ over the years.

But I can certainly imagine that any PP would be less identifiable as an expensive watch to the masses compared with any Rolex.
Funny, I never get any comments when wearing a Rolex at work. Ive had a few comments on my 5164 and it should be the most under the radar watch of my collection.

I actually get quite a few comments on my 5726. But mostly because people have no idea what it is. And certainly it screams quality, so people are curious. But still, most of my conversations surrounding my patek are people asking what it is.

My own personal experience, of course.

I would sell the Pateks and buy a 116500, black or white dial, for 15,000 pounds. You can use the rest of the money to buy 31 ounces of platinum and still have 7000 pounds left over.

Tough call. But this is on the wrist today and is such a fun watch to wear without worries. It’s a beautiful tank.

I'd do it the platinum Daytona is perfect if you plan to wear it more often.

the prior suggestion of selling off the 67R and 116500 seems to make the most sense.
you've confirmed that rose gold isn't working for u, so already that should be a strong (if not blatantly obvious) consideration to offload.
and having the ceramic bezel platona alongside another white metal ceramic bezel daytona seems redundant.

personally, i think the platona is far more interesting than the 5711 in white, so i can see an argument for letting that go. but as others have said, never let go of at 5711 regardless of color... just keep it in the drawer and wear on special occasions, i think you'll be glad u held on to an icon.

I'm surprised no one else seems to have mentioned this but doesn't £30k for the 5711 and £23k for the 5167R seem insanely low? Perhaps its because the OP has quoted in GBP and people have't converted to USD but that's $38700 and $29500.

If you were to go to chrono 24 and take the absolute lowest white 5711 for sale worldwide and discount an additional 20% (which I think is a fair, perhaps even too conservative calculation of fair value) you get £40500 ($52500) and ($40000).

Or am I missing something?

Errrr whoops, thanks for pointing that out ts3! How embarrassing. Goes to show just how much these pieces have appreciated though (inc the Daytona).

How funny! And we had people saying the sky is falling and the bubble will burst soon on PP’s- hah! Hope OP kept them :-)

I wouldn't do this.

Lots of great reasons above... my thoughts are that the Platona is way too heavy to actually enjoy wearing.

I have a WG Daytona and it's at the upper limit of comfort in terms of weight.

Spend some time with the Plat Daytona before you pull the trigger.

Interesting to look at these pieces in retrospect over the two years that have passed.

However, value aside, the logic still stands: if OP wasn't wearing those pieces, no matter how much they appreciated over time, the trade would have made sense.

I’d have hopped on a plane tonight to get that 5711 for £30,000.

Times have certainly changed and I didn’t make this trade. I’m glad I didn’t trade the 5167R and 5167A but I’m not so sure about the 5711.

I’ll get roasted here for admitting this but the 5711 (white/ silver dial) which has now been discontinued is still sat unworn in my safe. I have worn the 5167 a bit more.

I still lust after the Platinum Daytona and passed up the opportunity to buy one discounted. They are now selling in the U.K. for £63,000! There’s no way I’d pay this premium now.

Strangely the meteoric price rises have seen me favour the cheaper watches in my collection. My Tudor P01 has been on my wrist since the start of the lockdown.

Sell the white 5711 and pocket the cash.

You will clearly never wear it. Imho, unlikely this bubble can last too much longer. Take your winnings off the table and enjoy what you have.

When/if the bubble bursts, use that loot to find the platona. If no burst, no buy. You still have all this cash from a watch that has appreciated a massive amount. Winning!

Edit to add I admire your patience. I can barely last two days when a thought like this enters. You lasted two years. Impressive.

It is funny after 2 years people see that as bad trade but if we visit this thread 2-3 years from now when potentially the platona is discontinued, the opinions might change heavily.
