I never saw an answer to the question "how vintage?" If you truly want vintage, then TR-6. For do nothing more modern, i agree with the xk-8 suggestions.

IMO, considering your parameters, reliability, operation cost, etc, and pending 2 vs 4 seats ................... ) FORGET ANYTHING EUROPEAN !!!!!!!!!!!! ) Lexus SC (bang for buck that will last a lifetime) ) Miata ) Honda S2000 ) Mustang ) Corvette ) Solstice/Sky ) Toyota Solara All of the above can be driven and enjoyed without the headaches of repair/service costs and frequent rollback rides, but lack the status symbol element. It comes down to enjoying the drive or enjoying other people seeing you drive ................. choices.

I just thought about it as some have said Wranglers. What about an old bronco? Soft top, not near as common as jeeps and still easily repairable. I also watched a 1976 fj leave the block at Barrett Jackson yesterday for somewhere under 30. It was a complete restoration and looked amazing. So many cars leaving the block fairly cheap at Barrett Jackson this year. Maybe something to check out.
Also, it may have been mentioned and I missed it. What is your preference? What are you leaning towards (beyond a solstice)? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

MGBs are great. Parts extra readily available, classy and very affordable. Did you convert that to chrome bumpers? Ours here stateside have the ugly rubber bumpers post 74. Nice car btw.

Not really vintage but my vote would be a Mazda MX-5 (Miata) or a Honda S2000

I was also noticing the “V” emblem on the fender. I thought “that can’t say V8”, but I see it is. Never knew they had a V8 available in that car. Must move well! I’d be interested in hearing more about it, restoration etc.... |

Thanks for all the input, gents! A lot of good advice from people a lot more knowledgeable than me, so that is greatly appreciated.
I think I'm leaning towards a BMW 1-series at this point - I like the small size (but with 4 seats), the power of the punch in its frame, and the price. Not in a rush, so will be looking for the right price / mileage to come along. Let me know what you guys think!

Looking for ideas - inexpensive vintage convertible
Quote:
If you go BMW go M if you can swing it. M cars are more fun, hold value better and usually bypass many of the quirks of their regular production cars. Unfortunately you’d need to go with an M2 as BMW never made a E88 M car. My thoughts as to the choice are, you can find a really good example of an e46 convertible M3 with a 6 speed for less than the price of a general example of the e88. The e46 is incredibly reliable and is the last of the BMW line up that is easy to maintain and simple to work on yet will last well over 200,000 miles. YMMV as I have owned a few and do most of the work myself so I know the ease of work, symptoms and potential problems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My old school E46 2000 323Ci cabriolet works for me. I've had it about 12 years, get it out of storage every Spring and put it away in the Fall. This one hasn't seen snow. I put about 5K kms or 3K miles on it every year and its been very reliable so far.
