Not a fan any longer. We actually got some cheap one from Walmart (I totally forget the brand) and it crushes the Dyson. I had to buy a cheap vacuum when I was relocated living in corp housing. Dyson is in the storage closet collecting dust. Over priced and over hyped.

We usually pay a little more and get the most current version. I think our latest is a V11 Animal. If I had to buy a new one every year or so I would have moved to a different brand a long time ago. They work great when they work but they do not last.
Kind of knocks the concept of pay more and things last longer. (See Chinese junk thread). Apparently Dyson stuff is made in Malaysia.

I often wonder if things like vacuum cleaners and appliances should have a "hours" gauge to record exactly how long the things actually run. I mean people aren't exactly vacuuming a football field when they use them. Maybe they run for 5 minutes at a time.

I realize most people here have their servants do the vacuuming but it would be interesting to know how long the things are actually turned on.

Sorry for your loss Dave.

Hope you were able to retrieve everything before you emptied it. Lucky thing they are bagless I guess.

I realize a lot of people really love hardwood but we had top quality stuff.

You could never go wrong with Stallions.

Winner, best comment :)

Miele users here, after two dead Dysons. Dysons have good design and great marketing but poor longevity.

Ironic, but when I just mis-spelled Dyson on my iPad, the spell checker recommended Dysentery.

Figured most on TRF would use central vac systems or rely on staff to manage the vaccuming.

That being said, I have used Dyson and they are ok. No problems.

"DYSON" Vacuum Cleaners ...!

We just use shark vacuums which are essentially Dyson ripoffs. Dysons seem (very) overpriced.

We have this one as well - so easy and cordless is great.

Another vote for shark cordless - far superior product to the dyson in my view.

We also have a Henry for tougher jobs.

I find that The Shark has a lower profile. I don't seem to need to lift my legs as high when vacuuming is conducted whilst I am sat in my chair.

V10 cordless stick. Battery died just 1 month before warranty expired. Would not hold charge. They were very reluctant to send me a new battery, but what really got me angry was the service guy told me it was MY FAULT for using the vacuum on the highest setting! It has LOW/MEDIUM/HIGH speeds. He told me highest setting was only to be used for short 1 minute bursts. Unbe-frikkin-lievable! Anyway, m now terrified of using high-speed, in case I incur the wrath of the Dyson gods...

Uhm... yeah, sure, does it specify in the instructions to only use the hight setting on one minute bursts? I don’t think so, that guy is full of it. I use my 11 on high all the time, so far, no issues.

Spot on Paul. I was starting to taker the conversation that way, buy I backed off... I had to play nice so I could get replacement battery! I humored him, nodded and just sucked it up... though I felt like using the vacuum stick on HIM, if you get me meaning...

Rainbow is the best we’ve ever had. The Dyson broke very soon after purchase and you can’t talk to a live person for repair.

Our house cleaner brings one when she cleans. However, we have the cordless Dyson one for quick use and the larger plug in one for big cleaning.

The motor on big one started making a loud winding down noise when you turn it off. We got it at Costco sometime ago but I feel weird about taking it back.

When we got married (1981) our vacuum was an Electrolux. These were a robust item (although heavy & bulky) but the key connections were metal to metal, which I liked. Sucked OK but not as good as the Dysons we have had since about 2000. Only thing I don't like about the Dysons is all the plastic clips and connections. Also the power-head is not as robust as I would like (all plastic moving parts). Wife loves her "Stick" cleaner but battery charge is ordinary - needs a bigger more powerful (heavier) battery.
Maybe we will try something else next.

I agree.

My servant uses the central vacuum system.

Ouch!! What was that for!!

I was just kidding.....

Seriously.
One of my minions has a Dyson but I think he has just given up on the 5 minute battery life.

ps. BTW I saw what you did there.....

Fish in a barrel.

We have a robot vac by Eufy. Wifi controlled, it takes about 10 trips around to learn the room layout and then it takes care of itself.
Set it going, go to bed, wake up to a fully vacuumed room.
We also have one for out large kitchen space which vacs then mops - all while we're in bed.
Like a maid - but you don't pay her/him.
