Polishing A Nautilus
Hi, anyone with experience of polishing a nautilus? I want to get by 5726 polished when it’s going for service next week. Specifically on effect to the shape of the case and bezel. Thanks!

Polishing A Nautilus
As long as it’s done by patek , is totally fine. For me it would frustrate more than anything seeing it all scratch up.
But like I said , only if it is done by patek , no other Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't do it!
Even Patek has to remove some metal in the process. |

Lol Well I talk by experience, I sent my 5564R to Patek (NY) at the time because I couldn’t stand the scratches on the bezel. Came back perfect , not even a watchmaker couldn’t tell. But yeah Nautis and Aquas are hard watches to maintain Good luck to the OP Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I know it’s a bit of a dividing topic, and FYI I would not consider anyone but Patek to touch it :)

I’ll let you know!
My 5990 is at PP UK for service and case/bracelet refurb. Some deep scratches on bezel but have seen on their website that laser soldering is an option. So am giving it a try! Due back in August (was told 14 weeks) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why not consider just replacing the entire bezel? (assuming most of the deep scratches and dings are there anyways and not on the case itself)

I think that you aren’t just allowed to replace a bezel. Patek decides for you IIRC. I maybe wrong, will double check went it’s sent for service next week :)

You are right , that’s the advantage to own an AP Royal Oak … the bezel has screws and it’s an easy change. Personally I like more the Royal Oak than the nautilus. Royal oak also has the best bracelet on the market, hands down Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A friend of mine sent a pretty beat up 5990 in for welding and polishing, and it came back as an unworn watch. I have done the same with 5167, 5712 and 5711 plus two of my friends did it with their 3700’s and they all came back in fantastic condition Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Where were these watches being sent for welding? Patek doesn’t do that. I wouldn’t do it with any of mine. |

Yes they do. It’s also stated on the service bill.

Sure. I’ll upload tomorrow when I’m by my work computer. In the meantime you can see my friend Kristian Haagen’s 3700 before and after here. Shamelessly stolen form his Instagram. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Had the 3700 before picture been polished before by someone? In addition too the scratches the bezel edges look very smooth. I can see the bracelet showing wear and tear after 40 years
Yes Geneva will do some lazer fill on a case by case basis, not cheaply. May be a way for some who are drooling after Nautiluses, find one in beat up conditions from someone who's had one for many years, get it for close to the retail price and send it in for a $10k service and refurb. Kinda like people buy totaled out cars for less. Might be better than whining about how unfair it is they can't buy one from an AD, and save mid five figures from the Gray market. But a collector mindset would be needed |
