Add a 5980 or a 5990 to an existing 5711?
Hello everybody!
As you are already a owner of a 5711 (blue), what would you buy? - a 'new' 5980 in blue, reserved, ready for collection in the coming weeks - 5990 in black - wait until maybe a 5990 becomes available in blue How would you decide and why? Thanks |

5990... I like the dual time complication.

Ideally I'd take a different turn myself and go for a 5712 but I digress, in between those two I'd take the 5980 as it's the one I prefer.

5980 for me. Although I have to say, the more I see the 5990 the more I like it, it is really really growing on me. I think the 5990 probably has to be seen in person to appreciate it.

I'd get the 5980 at a bit of a discount. Since it's now a discontinued model, its price will only go up. If later on you decide you want the 5990 instead, you will most likely not lose any money on the 5980 purchase.

This is the same dilemma I have. I was thinking of selling the 5711 for the 5990, but don't want to part with the 5711. So, I'd need to go with a black face to differentiate from the blue 5711. Don't think the blue 5980 is enough diversity with the blue 5711.

Perfect combo IMHO and yes I am quite biased but for good reason!

5990 in black. The movement is intriguing. While I personally prefer a date window to a dial, and a 12-hr chrono to a 60-min., I think I would get over it.

5980 black dial would be my suggestion. Good luck!

Rose gold is a no-go for me. Sorry!
My thoughts (pros and cons) are as follows at the moment. 5980(blue): + most lovely dial color + clean and tidy upper half of the dial + date window - high contrast respectively dominant chronograph register (an all blue dial like the 5980/1AR-001 would be a dream ...) 5990: + Dual Time Function + chronograph and date register with low contrast + Position of the Pushers on the right ear - date register poorly readable - Pushers on the left ear |

I prefer the 5980 but there's hardly a wrong answer here.

I agree as I would say this Nautilus should be in RG so the 5712R, which is high on my list, or the 5980R. If gold is not for you I would not buy another blue dial.

excellent choice - you won't go wrong with that.
in pics the 5990 dial looks a bit too busy for my liking but obviously it could look much better in the flesh. I have a 5980 and am currently awaiting delivery of my 5711 - i think they are both complimentary to any watch collection. |

Your point re case construction I find very interesting - it has the same nautilus shape, but not the same function. I don't mind that to be honest, but should we still call it a nautilus?! |

Does the form still follow the function? The function has changend, against what it was tried to keep the form unchanged... |
