I wonder what they were on when they was planning this heist. A Van as a get away vehical and to obey UK traffic laws at all costs. They wouldn't have got far anyway if they did go through the red light as it would have lead via the Maidstone one-way system!!!

You've got to admit it, we've all seen some nice watches in shop windows and wondered how quickly you could get away if there was a handy brick nearby

What used to be the pillar of democracy is now the prison of democracy, and their powers of intrusion grow daily. A article in a London Newspaper i early 2008 tells how two children were charged with "anti social crimes" the first for using chalk to make a hopscotch game on the sidewalk, the second was charged for riding his bike on the sidewalk.

Anti social crime???? a nice catch all isnt it.

Uh yes, but it is only Anti-Social when they are regularly law abiding and easy targets.
If they argue and kick the crap out of the Police or demolish property.
They are regarded as products of the Anti-Social society, let off and rehabilitated by means of holidays so they feel better about themselves, BLESS THEM

I disagree with your comment about the cameras, they may not of prevented the crime from happening but they most certainly assisted in capturing them.

Yenning,
I don't know if you have ever tried running with a "Stab Proof" vest on?
But its certainly not the most easiest of thing to run with on.
Especially with the extra weight of them plus all the other gear that you have to wear!!

Having worked in an AD myself, robberies are always a worry. It's just good to see that surveillance is that good, and the police response is so fast. I feel sorry for all ADs on the high street...they're so much more vulnerable.

Makes for interesting reading.

The problem in the UK and certainly in my home town is that most these CCTV cameras are not monitered directly by the police but by the local councils using in most cases very low paid staff.

While it may have helped the detection rate, and that in it's self is questionable, it hasn't helped prevent street crime. A guy still managed to get on a bus and blow it up in allegedly one of the most secure cities in the World and it didn't stop a couple of guys trying to drive into an international airport at peak time.

At the other end of the scale my ex had her car stolen from a busy town centre car park not so long ago, CCTV all over the place and when the local plod eventually turned up they said unless she could give them some idea of the time the car went missing they didn't have the resources to veiw hours of tape from several cameras.

No doubt it will help catch the dumb and stupid but they will be caught anyway and as always the real bad guys are fully aware of how it works and won't be caught by them. It certainly hasn't made our streets any safer, you only need to take a walk into almost any town centre after 10pm any weekend to see that.

If used properly it could be a usefull tool but in it's current state it is just a waste on tax payers money.

the need for cameras in our town centers is just another byproduct of a declining western
society.we are paying for the poor choices of the generations before ours.before too long something will either change-or the society as a whole is doomed to decay-as it very well should..
