Incoming an unexpected dream watch
Hope you guys are ready for my little story.
Calling it a grail watch simply does not do it. I was not eyeing this watch or reference, it was just a watch I never thought I would pursue. I've always loved the way the Vintage Daytona looks, the way they wear, the charm that they carry, and that magical feeling. Like many others though, I couldn't justify the price point enough to seriously consider buying one. I have never really been in the market for a vintage Daytona, and that's why this feels surreal. I always pictured however that if I were ever to buy one, that it would be a silver dial. Fast forward to a few days ago, when I went overseas for a work trip, where I helped a good friend pack up some watches to sell to a dealer. I knew the content of the watches, but had never seen them in the flesh, and I knew that I would get a chance to view them before shipping them out, and I knew which watches they were, but again, it never occurred to me at all as I didnt think I would/could pull the trigger on one. I didnt know what to expect in terms of quality. I just knew I would love to see some watches, and then we could tour the city next. As soon as I tried the 6265, I was blown away. I knew I made a mistake by asking to wait till I play watches before we ship them out, but I was very reasonable with myself, and left it at that. My friend suggested that we go out to the city, and ship the watches later that evening so I have a few hours to think if I wanted to buy it. I thought it through, and thought I was being irrational for even considering it. I do my home work and take a second and third and fourth opinion on every watch I buy, and here I was considering a vintage daytona out of the blue and had to decide within a few hours. Needles to say, I had a reality check with myself and turned down the generous proposal. When we got to the apartment, I helped my friend ship the watches to the dealer, and thought nothing of it till later that night. I lost sleep looking at the pictures and thinking that I could consolidate to buy the daytona. I had a huge regret that I may have lost the opportunity to ever own a Daytona as I knew I wouldn't easily have another chance to buy one after falling in love with it in the flesh. It seems lately it is always a purchase online through a collector or dealer. I also knew that it would be hard to justify pulling the trigger on such a watch through pictures alone, at least for me.. I asked my friend if he could have the dealer ship the Daytona back to us.. My friend took this like a sport and laughed it off saying he knew this would happen. A few restless nights later, that night specifically was horrible! The dealer was kind enough to ship it back, and I have my first (and last!!) vintage daytona 6265 Big Red!! Comes with Box and papers too! I'm sorry for the long post, but I am truly smitten. Feels like a dream to see it on my wrist, and I am sure you can tell the joy in my post. A few pictures to share my joy with you guys, and thank you for reading!! |

Very cool, look at those pushers! I can tell how excited you are for sure, as I've always wanted a Daytona myself I can kind of understand your reaction. Congrats on your once in a lifetime find.

Huge congrats to a wonderful piece. Black dial and steel bezel is really my favourite configuration. Of course I am a bit biased but I do love it.
Well done and wear it in good health |
