Rolex 5513 from 1972 - questions

Hi,
I have found this Rolex 5513 to be sold. The sellers says that:
the watch is from 1972, never polished, not a frankenwatch....just serviced.

I add some pictures:

Could you give more hints, if everything seem OK....

Thank you.

Great looking watch! The bezel looks correct to the year but the strap is def newer, 93150/580 end links did not come out until I believe 1976. This IMHO doesn't hurt the watch at all

The bracelet is later, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not sure if the insert is original, but it looks good. You just need a tube of Polywatch for that crystal and you're good to go. I'm always skeptical when sellers say "never polished," but that case does have a sharpness/squareness to it that looks great, and the lug holes don't fold in like those on polished cases, so maybe he's right. (Still, photos/lighting can be tricky when analyzing a case.)

What's the beginning of the serial number?

Good luck!

how have I to check if the watch has been polished or not?
the pumps can easily move in the holes...

I'd just polish the crystal (only replace if absolutely necessary for deep scratches), and leave everything else alone. Nice watch! What's the asking price?

First quarter of 72 most likely riveted, although the first 9315 (folded) straps started to show in 1972 also

regarding the asking price - before negotiations the seller wants 5,850 dollars...
is it a good price? it comes with original box, and original invoice from 1970's but no papers.

Not a bad price, especially with a recent service. What is the beginning of the serial number?

+1. About 25%. Box adds value of the box. Receipt is nice but not too valuable imho.

The only thing I would question is why that crystal is so scratched when the watch has just been serviced?

The box in the photo is a USA box and wasn't around circa 1972, unless you have documents indicating it was sold later during the 1970's.

Boxes outside the USA were different that the Bufkor box depicted in your photo.

By the way, the watch looks very nice for its age and does appear to have avoided the buffing wheel - which doesn't happen very often for watches that old.

I hope you do not buy because the SELLER claims that the watch is so and so.
The term "never polished" should be : the watch is left as found and "not polished" by the seller. That watch has clearly been polished several times - look at the lugs and the crown guard which is now rounded and pointy.

Here's my watch just so you can compare the case profile ( even with the condition of my watch, I wouldn't dare claiming it has NEVER BEEN POLISHED ):

Thank you for the pics of your 5513.
I want this watch because i was born in 70's...
honestly - would you buy this watch? or not?
and if not - why?

I saw one more time the watch this morning - I have to admit that the watch has been polished...but...that's normal (no?) for a such old watch?

Watches polished are a fact. People get hung up over watches polished. The issue is if they are over polished and the lugs looks like toothpicks. In this case they don't.

Well, you've seen it in person, and we haven't, so only you can answer the question at this point. (Forget the polishing issue. The case looks nice and the lugs look thick.) If you love it and the seller has impeccable references, buy it. If you have any doubts, keep looking. This appears to be a very nice Sub with great patina and thick case. I actually think the price is fair, especially for Europe. Good luck! (By the way, you never said what the beginning of the serial number is.)
