My 1986 vintage 16013
My mother and I bought this 16013 new in 1986 (low 9 mil serial) as a retirement present for my father, as he'd always wanted a Rolex, but was the type of person who'd never thing of splashing out hard earned on himself.
He was over the moon and worn it every day afterwards until passing away in 2002. But he looked after it, only went back to Rolex for services, and wore it tight, so there's minimal stretch on the bracelet. It came to me after his passing, and I did wear it for a few years until buying my Sub, and now it's sitting in its box in the safe, which is a shame, but, it's not really my type of watch, but for sentimental reasons I'm hanging onto it as it was about the only material object my Dad had any attachment to. A well known London dealer who did an insurance valuation for me a few years ago, said it was the nicest condition mid 80's era 16013 DJ he'd seen in many a year, which was nice to hear considering they are quite common.

Great looking pictures all.
I'm thinking a vintage datejust might be next on my list. |

Incoming 16013 datejust! Been searching for a bluesy TT with B&P for a long time, found it, and brought 'er home! Is R serial plexi and holes "vintage"?? I'm thinking yes. Thanks for looking!

1977 Thunderbird, had it for a long time, broke the original band in the northern part Istanbul, Turkey in 1980 working in the oil field (it was a real bad blow up on the band).
It keeps perfect time..

The journey begins. I bought this 16030 on ebay over a year ago, it was located in Columbia from a very low count seller. Just before the auction ended I emailed about shipping. The seller responded quickly with the right information so I decided to bid and got it. The case back was rough but I knew I'd put a glass back on it anyway and the lugs are thick and there is no corrosion.
I knew I wanted a different dial, I have a 1603 with a black dial so during the year I bought this beautiful gray tapestry. Then today I was trolling through Chrono24 and saw this and the fuse is lit. I want my tapestry 16030! It will go soon for a service and a dial change and just maybe a red date wheel. :) i |

My 1630. Automatic 1575 movement in a pre-Oysterquartz case. And the first Datejust with a sapphire crystal.
