The reason why Oyster flex comes only on PM

Got my 116519LN today and the first thing I noticed was how balanced it felt.

I have a 116500 with the oyster flex mod with smarty end links too which feels so light, it doesn't feel there on the wrist.

The 116519 on the other hand, I can feel the weight of the case and the weight of the clasp, it just feels so much more substantial.

The missing weight of the bracelet just cannot be made up by the weight of SS.

So my view on Rolex not selling SS on Oyster Flex is they done the right thing.

I'd say though that may true that it feels great; I'd say it's more likely a matter of profit, selling less for more.

I agree that smaller steel watches can feel a little light. My Panerai in comparison feels great on rubber. However my 5167 I prefer on a bracelet because it’s just too darn light on rubber.

Weight does not always mean its more substantial IMHO the main reason for oyster flex on precious watches is for one reason only. Thats to make it a cheaper option over a all precious metal/bracelet watch.Yes they are great watches but speaking for myself much prefer SS watches.

I would always opt for the full PM bracelet if possible. That way I can wear full gold or switch out for a Rubber B or Everest strap. Best of all worlds. I also think the OF models are expensive for what they offer.

Love the look and feel of Oysterflex style band on my Sub; a fold clasp would made it heavier indeed but am good as is!

To all the OF watches are too expensive for what you get.... they're 7k cheaper than a full PM bracelet so not sure what you keep carrying on about. You want full PM pay 7K for 7 links... simple

Respectfully disagree. I put my 116500 on Oysterflex just a couple of weeks after I got it a year ago this week. I thought at the time I would switch back and forth periodically but the Daytona is still on its OF and the bracelet is still in a drawer.
I like the lightweight sporty feel of it. Rolex’s rationale for offering it on PM only is purely a financial decision I believe.

Here in Canada its 9K more for the WG Daytona same dial as the OF. You get a WG bezel (not sure cost wise how much cheaper ceramic is) and bracelet for the 9K

And remember, you get the links of the bracelet only. The OF already comes with the gold clasp, which is like $6,000 USD alone.

I don’t know man. I love my gold Daytona with ceramic bezel and I would buy a gold bracelet for it in a heartbeat but they don’t make one for it so they are definitely losing out on that profit.

The Oyster flex definitely wears different and it feels weird at first but once you get used to it it’s actually quite nice and very comfortable.

I agree with your assessment but totally disagree in how we translate it.

Meaning, I think not knowing the watch is on your wrist equates to ultimate comfort. I find the weight of SS so much better suited for rubber straps and in this case the oysterflex. I’ve owned both set ups and also found the 116519 to be too heavy. Because it’s lacking the counter balance of a full bracelet, I felt that the watch had to be worn super snug. That’s ok in fact a preference for many, but if I start getting hot and/or sweating, I like to wear my watch loose. I didn’t feel that was an option with the 116519. It has to remain tight on the wrist so not to flop around due to the weight of the case.

Just my opinion, and don’t get me wrong, I think the 116519 is an amazing watch (as are most Daytona’s on OF). But if I’m being picky and directly comparing it to the SS equivalent, I prefer SS. That 116519 dial though is in a league of its own!!!!

OF is the cheaper option and would make the affordability of a PM watch much within reach for more people!

I sold my 116518LN on OF after 2 months. Liked the watch but just didn't really like the look of the OF on wrist. Maybe it's just me but I much prefer Rolex sport watch on bracelet to strap or rubber.
