Icon19 My Rolex Dilemma (Video)

Hi guys!

I posted up a video related to my latest Rolex dilemma and would love to know what the forum members think. Instead of posting up a long essay thought I'd summarise in a video.

I value member's opinions as many of you are much more experienced.

My Rolex Dilemma

[IMG][/IMG]

Summary:
Flip a Rolex I no longer love for:
1- DJ41 alongside a BLNR (discount at AD without pushing the budget hard)
2- Hulk alongside a BLNR (pushing the budget hard)
3- Leave things as they are...

Hehehehe... I just feel they crossover a lot. That's my only issue. Bearing in mind I getting the hulk will mean I won't be able to buy another watch for a long time! Don't you think the DJ41 + BLNR covers more bases?

Hulk as an investment, DJ41 to give you more choice.

Hulks a stunner no question, but considering you have the Batman already and are getting rid of the OP personally id rather have a Rolex without a ceramic bezel rather than two with similar 'tool watch' aesthetics.

Id personally go with another dial though, as you've already got a touch of navy blue with the BLNR. The Dark rhodium you seem to have liked with the OP, why not go with the 'Wimbledon dial' to add a touch of green like the hulk, or the classic silver.

Either way DJ41 in my book, blue is still amazing.

Yes! getting a sub, no matter which variant, while owning a GMT is redundant to me... the look is pretty similar and if you only have a 2 watch collection, like me, the DJ is going to give you that versatility. I'm more of a flutted/ rhodium dial fan, but thats beyond the point! lol

Thanks Nadir for posting here and on the video ;-) I saw your comment. That's the thing... the investor in me thinks hulk... but it's too similar in just a two watch setup to the BLNR and that'll be an issue for me. RE: the blue, it's the colour that just popped. the rhodium I feel is subdued personally so I want a pop of colour. The wimbledon is nice but I need that lume man! lol I wish Rolex did a green sunburst dial in the DJ41... now imagine that!!!

Yes, absolutely. Buy what you think will be more practical, not what's more popular.

If you like the LVc, sure, but if you're left without a dressier watch then you might regret it and end up with a DJ41 anyway.

And, don't buy a watch as an investment. Buy it to wear and enjoy as your primary reasons.

I probably would have never gotten the OP if the DJ41 was out first... I've often thought about selling the OP for one... But, then I put the OP back on and really enjoy it....
If you're set on moving the OP, then the DJ41 is my pick for you.
Good luck

I'd say really think hard about the Hulk. For some it's non-negotiable and a watch they absolutely need. From the way you are thinking about it (watched your video), you remind me a bit of how I approached the watch and dabbling on the possibility of picking one up.

Earlier this year I thought I wanted one. Had the opportunity to try it on myself at a local grey. I liked it but did not fall in love with it as soon as it was on my wrist. My initial impressions were "this is pretty cool...but for like a weekend or summer watch." Not saying that is what the Hulk is -- just my own perception of it. A month or so went by and I get a call from my AD - says he has one for me if I want it. I decided to pass on it. To this day I don't regret that decision. I think the short-lived desire I had for it was partly due to TRF and largely due to all the craze I've heard recently about how hard of a watch it is to acquire at retail. Nothing wrong with all the die-hard Hulk fans on this site -- just saying that sometimes you can be enabled by others. Given where supply is these days, sometimes I think we fall more in love with the chase of a particular watch rather than the watch itself.

Given where you're at with your OP, I think flipping it for a DJ is a great decision. If you're looking for something to be a more "dressy" part of your collection, I might suggest doing the DJ 36mm instead but with the fluted bezel and jubilee. I understand your position on the fluted bezel being more flashy and driving up the cost with the WG, but you partly offset both the cost and flash factor by going down in size. Just some food for thought :)

I would go with the DJ41.
I myself have a BLNR, DJ41 and the blue OP 39mm.

They crossover a bit but I alternate between my HULK, BLNR and Pepsi...I’m now keeen to add the SD43 too.

Ultimately these all crossover but I don’t mind, I like them all.

I do like the DJ41 but I’d add the HULK still

Watched your video, and I don't really see a dilemma.

Between the DJ41 and Hulk, you seem to prefer the DJ41 "intrinsically". You're only thinking about the Hulk because of its current popularity and market value. So in other words, if the Hulk was as available as the DJ41, it wouldn't be as appealing to you.

You said you've fallen out of love with the OP39. So why not just flip that and go for the DJ41 in the configuration you want. Notwithstanding market value, it's the option that seems to appeal to you the most.

The BLNR and DJ41 would make a great pairing.

Has to be hulk and blnr - those are the better two watches, easy. Blnr can handle any dressier situation short of a tux and who wears those anymore anyways

I'd be more than happy with just a BLNR and Hulk in my collection. I would definitely have a hulk over a datejust any day.

If you want a watch when wearing a shirt the BLNR is flashy enough.

OP - I would go with the DJ in this case to give you a dressier option. The jubilee also looks great on you.

Side note, I watched your BLNR video a while back and loved it. Just followed you on YouTube, great stuff!

Hmmmm it’s the sensible vs the ‘investor’ + currently popular dilemma lol thank you for the comment and I’m glad you found my previous videos helpful.

Not sure this is much of a decision at all. Go with the Hulk and if it doesn’t float your boat you can flip and get the DJ while pocketing some coin. If you get the DJ and want the Hulk? Sorry, no go.

Flex those green muscles and go HULK!

I would say go with the DJ41 but the hulk is great and easy to flip. You've mentioned its pushing the budget but if you decide you want to part ways with it, it's a really popular model that will sell probably equal to or more than what you paid for. I am with the others on buying what you'll wear not what's a better investment. These are watches that you enjoy and want to wear. In the end go with what you want rather than what you think is better due to a popular vote. I got a Z blue milgauss the second time around and it is no where near as popular of a rolex model compared to the subs, daytonas, gmts and skys. But, it screams timeless, class, funk, and beauty all in a piece so go with what your heart wants!
