Irresistible - Patek 5170P Manual Winding Chronograph

Ever since I laid eyes on this beauty at the London Salon, I have craved for this

Always thought I won't want diamond on watches but this one is enchanting. If I get this, it will be my first Platinum watch. I know the resale is less than favourable when say compare to the 5070, but heck, I can't see me flipping it. All my PPs have always been keepers.

Why aren't there "disablers" in watch forum when you need them?

Just posting out of boredom. Enjoy your weekends.

Felt the same way when I tried it on last week. Can't get it out of my head. The dial is perfect.

Mod - delete this thread. It’s may cost me the 529 plans.

I have loved / craved this for a while now. Can’t add new funds and I’m not ready to shed a few of my top pieces for it.

Love that Patek! Huge congrats! The blue dial is just perfect and I never thought I would like diamonds on a watch but they are so tastefully done they offer that perfect subtle sparkle.

I've considered it a few times I just don't know if a smaller (for me) dress watch would get any wrist time but it does keep calling.

There's a reason why I bought this as my 1st Patek. Just an amazing watch and will go with me to my grave (assuming none of my daughters want it lol). Stunning dial and I'm a big hater on diamonds for watches....but these baguettes are all style....even my wife was shocked how great and natural/inconspicuous they look. And man....the feeling of just winding it up, set the time.....and go (ok maybe not immediately because I'm constantly caught staring at the movement for a couple minutes before I put it on after winding).....irreplaceable for a TOTL winding chrono. The only other chronograph that comes close to this feeling for me are the datographs but.....I just don't got the wrist for it.

Superb pics. Is this the original strap that comes with the watch? I was thinking a dark blue aligator will match this watch better.

Nice piece but for me I don’t get too excited about manual watch nor do I find Chrono very useful. I do like platinum though. Maybe biased but I just a bnib 5723 G with blue dial and shiny blue strap. Very happy w it so far:-))

That is incredible! A PP simply has to be part of my collection at some point and I always thought that it would be a nautilus. Given their hype at the moment I have been a little put off them to be honest as I prefer to be a little more off the beaten path despite them being obviously superb watches. I may come around to them again in the future but this 5170P would be high on my list if I was looking to drop $100k on a piece. Sadly I am not right now so can only appreciate it in the experiences of others.

People who know me knows I'm very casual sporty like 90% of the time. I feel like this watch isn't only reserved for dressy occasions......perhaps I'm being blasphemous but I really like rocking the watch too in shorts and a t-shirt.

But most definitely, smokingly beautiful as well with a nice dress shirt.

Thanks, Ben. That is the original strap, a shiny black. I think the pairing works nicely and was well thought out by Patek because the dial goes from blue (in the center of the dial) to black (on the outer part of the dial), so the black strap is a continuation of the black part of the dial.

With that said, others have put it on a dark blue matte strap (see toucan’s picture above), and it looks great. I also think a shiny dark / navy blue strap would look very sharp.

I totally agree with you, 5170P can easily go on jeans...I should have clarified, not a lot of chronographs that can go more formal the way this can. ALS 1815 and this would be my personal favourites for both suit and jeans. Yes there are others, but I'm taken by these most of all with this versatility

Enjoy yours!
