Just me or is the lume on Rolex watches Subpar

I never really felt the lume on my Rolex watches was that great. Specifically it would look nice for a few minutes even after being in the sun for most of the day and fade quickly in the evening. I recently purchased a decade old speedmaster and the lume lasts significantly longer than new Rolex watches I have owned in the past. I also find the lume on Tudor watches to be as good if not better than Rolex watches. I have not have much experience with other brands. Does anyone share my feelings? I really think Rolex could improve in this area.

Tudor lume is way better than Rolex, in my experience. I don't even have to charge up my BB or Ranger and they will glow all night, whereas all my Rolex die overnight even after a close-up one-minute charge under a bright bulb.

X2. Pelagos is worth buying for the lume alone ;). My next purchase i think. I am glad some people seem to share my minor gripes with Rolex lume. Perhaps it is time for them to update?

lume? that's what Seiko's are for!

by comparison, the sub takes 15 seconds to emit the same amount of luminescence.

It's woefully subpar. Never understood why.

My newer omegas (now all gone) have all been better than Rolex with the exception of my old Polar 216570 which had incredible lume

Same feeling here; my old Omega seamaster shines brighter than all Rolexes I had (DJ's and Explorers, 16610 Sub)

I've had the same experience. My Omegas outshine (literally) my Rolexes, but my 216570 was brilliant.

And I know you miss your 216570 just like I do. Damn you Rolex for making it too large :/

Indeed, sir. I'm afraid you and I will forever lament those two millimeters, without which the 216570 would be the perfect watch.

I love Rolex, but for lume, look to Luminous and Radiomirs!

Agree Rolex lume is nothing to write home about. No big deal as for myself I really don't depend on lume glow for reading my watches.

Depends on what subpar is ?
I mean, how bright does it really need to be ?
Are my Rolex shining bright all night ? No...
But then I'm not up all night either ...
Well maybe sometimes ...

It works for me cause during the day I can't
keep my eyes off of them . Any one I'm wearing
sub c or GMT ... Just beautiful watches !!!

Thing is, if you're somewhere so dark that you need to rely on the lume to tell the time then logic would dictate that you'd have a torch with. Just charge the lume again for a few seconds and you'll be good to go.

Anyhoo, from my limited experience it's hard to beat the Panerais for lume.

The Pelagos is among the best lumed watches I have ever owned.

The blue lume on the GMT C is nice, but does not hold a charge like the Tudor.

The lume on the Panerai is better than the Rolex, but in my opinion, the Tudor has it beat.

i love the look of my Rolex and Tudor lume when I walk indoors after spending some time out in the sun. Really, I love it. But keeping a charge all night? Not impressed, so I wear my Luminox to bed. I'm on call 24 hours a day, and my little boy still wakes up occasionally at night; I much prefer the tritium for late night time checks!

Subpar but doesn't really bother me. It's enough that I can read it in the middle of the night in bed and that's all I need.

My pelagos is much better but aside from that little smile I get walking into the bedroom after brushing my teeth, it serves me no better.

The lume on my Ranger often catches my eye even when the room isn't dark.

Rolex could do much better w/ lume
One thing in particular is to make the hands relatively brighter vs the dial markers

In the bottom pic, even though the AP on the right is overall not as bright nor lasts as long as the Sub lume, the main hands are easier to see vs the rest of the dial
