Tudor Sub thoughts

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing this tudor 7928, just wondering what your thoughts were.

It appears to be a 66' model (serial # 505560), with the 'Gilt' outer minute track. The snowflake service hands is an interesting look, but how much would an original set of hands set me back?

Also does the insert (although worn) look period correct? - i'm terrible with these >.< . The case seems to be worn/polished, is it beyond saving/too far gone?

The price would (i think) be under market value, but that takes in to account the case condition and incorrect hands.

it'll be interesting to know what movement is inside this 7928. As Snowflake hands only came on the 7016 & 7021 ref onwards, which had an ETA movement. From what i recall, the 7928 was a cal 390, and there was never any snowflake hands configuration, so I'd be surprised to learn that 7928 cal 390 would have SF hands to fit during service replacement. I could be dead wrong, but I'm rather skeptical about having SF hands on a 7928.

Yea, the hands are definitely wrong. And talking to another user, the serial dates it to 1965, which I've coborated as all the subs I could find as 505xxx were 1965s with chapter rings, so the dial also looks to be incorrect :(

Does anyone think this has value as parts? Or any other thoughts on the watch?

I would definitely be curious what movement is in there, and the hands are wrong if it was a factory authorized service. Plus questionable dial. Several Red Flags here. If You do end up buying, I would throw that POS bracelet as far away as I could.

The hands on the flake are the same size as the 7928 so it is possible to fit the original movement. Though just as likely to be swapped out. So yes, movement photos a must.

Dial is correct and nicer than what is typically found in the time. Case is soft, but not bad.

Insert is a 70s version

If the price was right, worth salvaging. I'd buy it for a project.

there would be some value for the parts, to a certain degree, but i am unsure if the price you'd be paying for, would be worth the amount you could get if you were to sell them 'piece meal'. the value of a period correct watch, would definitely be worth more than the sum of the parts, with certain other watches as an exception(ie: bakelite bezel on a 6542).

That said, I'm not entirely i would commit to a piece like this as a project build, given that tudor 7928 parts are not common in the market place, and if selling parts like bracelet and sf hands would render suffice justification to source for period correct parts.

But ultimately, its entirely up to you. Good luck with your decision!
