New here, should I sell to Bob's?

So I have a 1967 2 tone Date 1500 (Bob's says it is a 1970). Don't know how to go about selling it, there is no local market in rural eastern NC. Bob's seems like the only option seeing I have not sold a Rolex before. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

My 2 cents-
They are decent to buy from. I purchased a Sea Dweller and am happy with the transaction. The watch was fairly priced and as represented. The transaction was painless.

They would not be my first choice (or 2nd or 3rd)if I wanted to sell. They make their money on the buy side and I would imagine a good portion of their inventory comes from people who need cash fast.

I have never bought from Bob's but they seem to certainly do well on the buy side. I doubt I would ever sell to them (I am not sure if they are any better if you want to do so form of trade) but I can understand that someone who lives in a remote/rural area with limited internet skills may find their business model efficient enough to be appealing.

You'll lose $$$ selling this way but its much safer than eBay, for example.

Sell privately yourself, here on TRF.

Bob's is going to pay less as they have to make margin, cover overheard and associated costs.

Based on your location and lack of local options, you might check what your local pawn shop would pay. That’s the floor price but safest route if you take cash.

Next is the grey market guys like Bob’s etc. The demand for that model isn’t high so they’d factor that into their offer. It could be lower than the Pawnshop.

Then you could reach out to trusted sellers here who sell vintage regularly. That price might be somewhere in the middle.

But that’s a lot of shipping costs and risk along the way.

Last option is selling it on eBay - set the reserve equal to the pawnshop offer.

There are several well known and respected dealers who offer a "sell your watch" option. I would recommend seeking them out and inquiring on the $ amount they'd offer you for your Ref. 1500. This would be the quickest, pain-free way to sell your watch...but it's also the way to profit the least. Even with the seller's fees it's likely that selling the watch on eBay would put more money in your pocket. Obviously it's much more involved (taking good pics, creating the listing, etc.) and the sale may not be quick, so that's something to consider. Lastly, the 1500 is a great watch but one that isn't highly sought after--another thing to remember.
Good luck!

I’ve never used Bob’s but often use recognised dealers for trading up. Saves me the hassle of selling with all crazies asking for best price and for my trusted dealers I know what I’m getting. It’s not the price that you get for the watch that counts then, it’s the amount inbetween that counts
