Waterproofing vintage 1665 & 1680

Ok quick question. With the current values of these watches today would anyone send them for waterproof testing in order to wear them in the water or leave them dry? Opinions?
Thanks
Davey

If they are pressure tested then sure. It then becomes a personal choice.

I had my 1016 pressure tested last year, and wore it when we went on a weekend city break, and swam in the hotel pool and used the sauna with it on. It was last serviced in 2012,

My 1680 Red has been cleared to be submerged into water. But why risk it so I don’t swim with it. It doesn’t stop me from washing and rinsing it every few months though. Cheers!

Rolex steel doesn't get old and decrepit and no longer safe in your backyard pool. As long as it has new seals and passes a water test it's literally 'good as new'. The crankshaft on a 50 year old MGB goes through more stress in a mile than your over engineered 650 foot sub will in 100 years.

Would I take a 150k milsub in the ocean? No, not because it might fail, more because your arm may be lunch for a passing shark or some other random act of chance.

Anything of mine with an Acrylic Crystal stays dry,Why risk it? If You want something vintage looking that you can dive in look at a matte 666.

Up to you...with a pressure test, you certainly can.
I realize many say things like “why take a chance”, but there is a certain amount of enjoyment that can come from using something old for what it was intended. Certainly it isn’t necessary, and there are now better tools available, but a dip in the ocean with a dive watch, a lap around the track with a Chronograph, or driving a classic car has a lot of appeal.

If it passes the test, WEAR the hell out of it.

Just make sure your plexi is recent.

It's a Rolex, remember?

Am inclined to agree...why take the chance if there is no real need? Personally I don't risk my four digit serials unnecessarily but each to their own!
