Hey Everyone! I have my fathers Vintage Rolex Datejust that was passed down to me a few years ago. It’s not only the most important watch I own but the most important possession. My dad has it serviced one time back in the late 1980’s. Currently It’s not keeping very good time and the automatic movement is a little slow so I’m thinking of having it serviced by Rolex Service Center in NYC. Has anyone had a Vintage Datejust or Rolex Serviced by RSC? I would like to keep the watch All Original as possible and definitely don’t want any polishing. Thanks!!

I had a 5513 serviced through RSC. I specifically asked them not to change the dial, hands, crystal, bezel insert or polish the watch They followed my instructions but I hear they don’t always.

I am having a 1016 serviced now and didn’t want to chance it so I found a local vintage guy. Good luck!

agree with above, i think it depends on what instructions are given, and they may send original parts back. The 16750 i bought from an AD last year sent the watch for service at the Canadian RSC before they put it up for sale. The RSC replaced the crystal, spring bars, and red/blue insert, but sent the original insert back with the watch.

Yes, a few. They've always followed my instructions. Do not replace dial or hands, do not polish. They've done great work for me, and they'll make you confirm an itemized list of work before proceeding

I've used the former Rolex-authorized service center in SF. Giovanni did great work on my Red Sub and my 16800.

Very interesting. I didn’t know that. I had work done by him and was wondering why the repair form had Independent and the credit card slip said Rolex Authorized Service. I wonder why he lost it.

I had my 1675 Pepsi serviced last year and specifically asked them to only service the movement and not change anything else. I even got into a small argument with the "salesperson" at my local AD about it. She said that it would be as good as new if they change all the old parts that were worn. I educated her on what a patina is and she wrote everything up as I requested.
I made the request that if they don't just service the movement and "have" to do the entire watch (meaning, change all the parts they feel need to be changed) that they should not do anything to the watch and just send it back. Rolex will NOT move forward with the service until you give the okay.
They serviced only the movement and sent it back to me completely intact the way I wanted it, no problem at all.

I had RSC here in Toronto restore an old 1018, but I wanted the watch made new again. They did a great job. Pricey though, CAD1300 IIRC.

Thank You Everyone for the replies and help!! Much appreciated!! Also, does anyone know if through RSC, you can get a new Datejust case for a Vintage Datejust but keep the Original Dial? My good friend has a Vintage Datejust 1601 but the case is pretty beat up. Thanks!!

I guess we'd need to see photos, but I'm inclined to say that it would be better to have the original case refinished. Replacing the mid-case will pretty much destroy the value.

I did it through my local ad as they don’t have parts to fix it. It was sent to Geneve.
