1675 Part Number Assistance

Hi,

My watchmaker is very skilled but doesn’t have Rolex connections. Consequently, I try to help him find parts from various sources.

We are replacing a few wheels on my ‘70s 1675 and he needs an hour wheel. I’d like a part number to double check the part because I recently purchased a wheel from a seller on eBay, and bought a 1570 hour wheel which won’t fit (non-gmt 1570! Presumably) — the seller thought that the wheels were interchangeable, but I had reservations (as I thought the 24 hour complication required a different length hour wheel).

A seller on eBay has a new part in packaging with the number B/8040-Y1 — which he describes as a 1575 hour wheel with height 1.41mm. Is this the correct part?

Thanks in advance.

1675 Part Number Assistance

From the manual for 1675gmt movement

I have the 1575 (date), as well as the 1575gmt movement schematics and parts lists as pdf. If you send me an email to ccrolex at hotmail dot com, I’ll forward them to you.

Ok, so first we need to know whether you have a 1565 GMT or 1575 GMT movement in the watch?

A non GMT 1565 has an hour wheel height of 1.8 and a GMT version has a height of 2.2. That is part number 8032. Now, there is another hour wheel for a GMT which is part number 8033. That is the GMT hour wheel.

A standard 1575 has a 1.8 hight hour wheel which is part number 7952.

A 1575 GMT has 2 options of heights for hour wheels - height of 2.2 (part number 8032) and height of 2.44 (part number 8039)

Then we come to the GMT hour wheels which are a height of 1.17 (part number 8033) and height of 1.41 (part number 8040).

Let me know if you need anything clarified.

This information is very good, however, it could steer you in the wrong direction if not entirely understood. Exisiitng heights, etc must be known to make an informed decision.

Hi Ashton,

Thanks for the advice! I’m not sure which movement I have. The movement says “1570” on it. Can you tell from these photos which I have?:

It’s a 1575gmt, the parts for it are those shown in the parts manual in my post.

It is a 1575 GMT. However, as I have already stated there are two heights for the 1575 GMT, but only one height for the 1565 GMT. You also need to know which hour wheel you need.

Perfect! Thanks, Ashton. I’m assuming the way to determine the height is by measuring the old wheel?

Thanks to everyone's help on this thread, and thanks to SouthTexas for your emails.

However, I am having the devil of a job finding a part. I have contacted the usual people on the eBay and chatted up my Rolex contact, and I have been unable to finding an 8039. Does anyone on here have a spare one or know of anyone who does?

Below are some part numbers with pictures from a 1970s C&E Marshall parts catalog for the 1565/1560/1530 Rolex movement. The may be an alternative if you can't source parts from Rolex directly.

Thanks, David! The 8039 part is not cross referenced on the parts list you shared -- are C&E still going? Or do you suggest I try to track down their part number on eBay etc?

I'm pretty sure C&E have been out of business for many years. When that catalog was printed any watchmaker could buy Rolex parts. I figured their part numbers might prove useful, however not too likely.

You can try these U.S. watch parts suppliers if you can't find original Rolex parts. (aftermarket or generic):

https://www.esslinger.com/generic-rolex-watch-parts

www.ofrei.com

www.julesborel.com/

Good Luck,
David.

Is the wheel broken, why exactly does it need changing?

Sorry for the late reply; I’ve just seen this message! My watchmaker says that the wheel is just worn out, @Ashton_Horologist. There is too much wear on the teeth and it’s not meshing properly.

I still can’t find the part anywhere — do you have any suggestions where I can find one?
