So a replacement crystal will make this dial look better? Is there any other advantage in getting a new style crystal? This one has a small crack at about the 27 minute mark so I'll do something about that. I have seen a few places say that have NOS crystals. I am assuming those are like the one that is on it.

Personally I would replace like for like. I would not try and fit something newer or aftermarket. If you can get NOS for a decent price I'd do it. Or I would polish the original and enjoy it's vintage look. A watchmaker can do it or if you have polywatch (cheap on Amazon) you can do a nice job too. If you replace it with an NOS one, I would ask to keep the original. That's just me. I have 4 vintages Rolex and always keep the replaced parts and stick them labeled with date and stapled to my receipt. So if I ever sell, I have proof of replacement with service. Also I just like maintaining it's provenance.

Excellent score by the way! That was an excellent purchase price. It'll clean up beautifully for not a lot of money. I would try and keep it local with a trusted watchmaker of yours because some of the recommendations here (which are fabulous) charge a pretty penny and you'll end up with an estimate twice of what you paid for it. It's happened to me. I bought an all original 6694 from 1973 for $1,400 and was quoted $1,500 to service it from some of the recommendations here! I had the simple mechanical movement serviced for $160.00 including gaskets, plus new genuine mainspring, genuine case tube, and genuine crown which was an additional $300.00. Dialed in perfect and runs like a champ.

Bracelet restoration for that can run you a few hundred dollars. One of my stainless oyster was $225 with MY plus postage both ways. But, a high quality leather or alligator strap will look fabulous too. Whatever floats your boat and taste!

Enjoy.

The original rounded crystal are no longer available. I suppose someone somewhere has one nos but the newer top hat are much more legible not to mention secure. If yours is cracked, get rid of it.

One of my watches still has one, look at that distortion! lol

Vintage date just

Our local AD/repair shop has a new style crystal and will replace it over the weekend for $70. I’d leave it and polish it if it weren’t for the crack. I don’t plan on getting it wet but those sound like famous last words.

You'll be surprised how much better it will look. Ask him to get pics of the case with the bezel and case back off. Based on how clean your watch is between the lugs I have a feeling it's going to be corrosion free. Makes a large difference in value.

That is an excellent deal for such a great condition. Not to mention 14k gold! Sellers in my area go way above $3,000 for gold watches in this condition.

That DJ would be nearly four times the price you paid if you were looking to buy in the UK - great watch and hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

I’m having a little trouble getting used to the small size. I’ll give it a little more time

please don't get handy and attempt to polish the watch. it's a beauty and in texas there's a good friend named tommy taylor that may be able to help you out with a movement service whenever you are ready.

bracelet-wise please consider the new guy in california "rolliworks" that has been posting great pics of his work on this forum. he could get that USA band in ship shape!

All sixes open except the one in "26" is certainly something I've seen on genuine datewheels. OP, are the other sixes open?
