What to do (1680)

Hi all,

I'm sure most of you will have seen this 1680 for sale on the forum from 1970's

Long story short I bought it off the seller for a very reasonable price was shipped to the UK via the guy I use to service my watches

It arrived yesterday

Plenty of crud on the watch and I think has cleaned up nicely

bracelet is a later but correct 93150

The watch had been looked after up until the mid 90's as there was 6 service marks in the case back

Running abit rough does need a service

My question is do I send to Rolex and try so see if I can have a red writing service dial get the case polished etc or just leave it as is get service by the guy I use and in the future find a period correct bezel

The dial and hands are a nice service tritium with a egg shell patina

Whats your thoughts

I believe Rolex will only provide the Red service dial in exchange for a red dial.

Sharp! Are you going to try to get a red service dial?

you can't get a red service dial from RSC. They will only give you a red service dial in exchange for a red service dial.

I have tried this once with a 1680 that fell within the red serial. The watch had a white service dial in it. Rolex said they won't order me a red service dial because i don't have one to trade. They didn't care about the serial number range either.

I was in you situation a few years back and decided the best course was a standard service and just keep an eye out for the right parts, no hurry, no stress. It took a couple of years for everything to fall into place but it was worth it...

thanks Oscar! The service dial and insert are not with value and will help to offset the cost of period correct parts.. Good Luck!
