Thoughts on this 1675 gilt
Hi all,
I’m new to the forum and a beginner vintage Rolex collector trying to survive in that jungle! I’d like to know what are your thoughts on this 1675 PCG gilt that’s beeing offered for sale. 5be50c0d-87de-4be1-864d-09ef61b2ba3e.jpg73cda551-953f-458f-859d-c4eb9e1eb28c.jpgb89e0df2-4622-4278-b584-2adb0bce8c0e.jpga405ef56-a930-4551-8e66-30bfc6ec1963.jpgd9a12802-3c56-4581-9f94-808273b81e80.jpg Here are the « doubts » I have : I thought at first that the chamfers were too « deep », going almost to the lug hole, and a sign of bad polishing but it seems like it was sometimes the case in 60s GMT and I have seen similar pictures of legit watches but I don’t know what to think of this one. The hands patina is not matching perfectly the indexes but It looks « greenish »...moisture? The 4 and 5 indexes also seem a little scratched on the surface...An attempt to remove some discolorations? In need for more knowledgeable input! Thanks! Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

The mid casing appears to have been "refinished" by the horizontal brushings across the tops of the lugs, also the chamfer is far too pronounced imho...

Yes, this mid case looks far too out of sorts for something to be called a PCG with any sort of true lines; poor job = PASS ~

I don’t exactly understand what you mean but the « pass » part is pretty clear!
I felt something was off with the case without really knowing what...Thanks! Here are more pictures 141ed014-9aa1-4fa6-823d-910323a21101.jpg39bb6c83-047a-4b07-aaa2-9056a262abfd.jpg |

Thoughts on this 1675 gilt
Quote:
The tops of the mid casings lugs are brushed not consistent to watches of the period... The chamfer is often refinished by the inexperienced and is exemplary of these lines found on the piece you are looking at; some even being shaped like a banana as displayed in this image you last provided...

Unpolished gilt 1675,The Chamfers are much wider than on a later matte 1675.I’m not saying the OP’s Case is good,Just pointing out the chamfer differences over the Years. |

The case has been worked over. Someone used a file on the chamfers and a poor job at best.

Thanks, that was my first reaction when I saw the pictures but reading that chamfers on gilt GMT were more pronounced confused me a little! What about the tritium’s greenish colour? What makes it turn like that? Isn’t moisture supposed to cause darker stains? Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

Really, just a butcher job. And would be the very last item on a mid case to really bother with especially with the small profile it has to start with. I mean, unless it was "gashed," and depending how deep, it would be a better "hide job" to fill and rebuild that detail. Unfortunate... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
