PCL, main argument against GMTIIC, but why not for DAYTONA?

Why does everyone say the PCL's are a problem for the GMTIIC, yet they never use it as a negative on the daytona. Unless you are purely comparing it to a sub, I think the polished linkes are on many rolexes and probaly all hold up the same? so why single out the GMTIIC?

I don't like them on any watch. I would consider a Daytona if I didn't have to go all the way back to 1990 to find an example of one without pcl.

My guess is that it's because the PCL is a newer development on the GMT vs the Daytona, which has had them for about 20 years now.

Agreed - I like both PCLs and brushed. It's all stainless steel after all!

I agree with the previous posts. I think most people single out the GMTIIc for the PCLs because not long ago the GMT stainless came in all brushed links. I love the PCLs on my Daytona, GMTIIC and on my DJII. I want to like the sub and explorers but every time I try one on at the AD they just feel and look so bland.Like a car with dull factory rims. I think shiny chrome rims look better. And I think PCLs really make a stainless Rolex look special

I see the Daytona as a more dressy and flashy watch than the GMTII.
So PCLs are okay on the Daytona

I like the PCL's on my GMTIIC. It helps differentiate it from my 114060. I'm in the office more than not. If I was free from having to work and I had one Rolex, I'd prefer the GMTIIC without PCL's.

PCLs on a GMT dress the watch up a bit more, which seems appropriate since it's not really classified as a dive watch like the Sub. I like both brushed and polished. Most don't like PCLs because they are prone to hairline marks and whatnot. Basically, the same goes for the Daytona.. Although I am not as much of a fan of the TT Daytona like I am the TT Sub or GMT.

GMT is a toolwatch and it looks odd with the PCL in stainless steel.
I had a milgauss with the PCL. On the millie it looked like it should be, because the lugs are polished too.
Now i wear a 116613LN and it has PCL. But a TT model not really a toolwatch anymore.

By the way on the milgauss, the PCL didnt scratch that easy. If the small scratches really bother you, you can use a cape codd to get rid of the scratches and it looks just brand new.

pcl's show scratches too easily and are too flashy on tool models.

however, from all i've read and watched, the pcl's seem to mark a historical shift from primarily a tool watch company to a more mainstream luxury watch company. many rolex tool watch purists (myself included) think they should be separated in the showcase. the move was also related to media and critics complaining rolex was slow to move on trends as their watches kept getting more expensive but didn't look the part to justify the prices. shiny doesn't mean high-end value to me but to some it does, and they won rolex over.

imo, if the current gmt, turn-o-graph, daytona and milgauss were offered with a non pcl option, they'd sell more of them (and i'd still have mine, less the gmt which i also thought the ceramic bezel to be too much). interestingly enough, up until the latter part of the 20th, all the aforementioned were non pcl ss only (or only all gold or 2t) at some point.

if you like pcl's, the rolex world has more to offer today (which is good for many), but for others, it results in a lot of facepalming.

PCL's look fantastic & really make a watch pop when new but just from normal everyday wear they will look like crap in a year. A brushed bracelet is much easier to touch up while you wait for a service. That's my take on it.

PCLs are part of the Rolex tool watch theme. They are the Watch version of the Swiss army knife. Like carrying a pocket mirror, good to check your hair ,makeup, check your teeth after a meal, great to momentarily blind someone with the reflections if the need arises. I would think with PCLs on a GMT that a pilot might find it a little reflective in the cockpit. Maybe why all the UFO reports I love PCLs on my Daytona but only on the Daytona .

I myself had narrowed my next Acquistions down to either a BLNR or a Deepsea. After a few trips to see them on wrist and in the metal, it was the PCL's of the BLNR that didn't seem to work for me. Otherwise, an almost perfect watch IMHO
