Sub 14060M: First Time In Person!
Wow! The photos don't do this watch justice! Went to Mayor's, a Rolex AD in Florida this morning. They had quite a Sub assortment. Tried on the 14060M dateless. My wrist never looked better! That is one stunning piece. Problem is they wouldn't budge off $7500. But they will double the Rolex warranty to 4 years, which is very nice.
Should I take a pass and look for a 5 year old mint, pre-owned example with recent service for at least $2000 less or is the $7500 "new" a decent price, given the 4 year warranty from the AD? Thank you! |

Discontinued, but in no way obsolete.
At $7500 I would be looking for lightly pre-owned for under $5K, but if you prefer new and it's worth it to you , then it is. |

For the money, I would go with the new ceramic 114060.. If you really, really want a 14060M, get one in the used market, mint, for 5 to 6K..

Yes, discontinued last year. I put mine on lay away last summer for 6500.00 and picked it up for my retirement gift to myself this February. Is it worth it to you to pay the premium to get NIB still stickered, only you can say I guess. I like the fact that I can say that I purchased my first Rolex NIB from an AD.
Are you sure though that you're not talking about the newer 114060 and not the 14060? $7500.00 seems like it would be retail for the newer but who knows with AD's, a no date Sub no matter which variant might command the same price on the shelf? In any event either is a great watch, here's a couple pics to make you drool.

I had always thought that an AD could only sell a discontinued model at the last list price before discontinuation. That's how I got my Sea Dweller. Rare as it was to find at the time, the AD sold it for the last listed retail, and I was glad to get it.
When the SS Daytonas were extremely hard to get some years ago, a dealer told me that used prices were higher than retail, and so he would sell them as used even though they were new. That way, he could get the higher amount. I'm just going by some of what I've lived and seen. I don't know the rules, but the price they're asking for the 14060M seems high. |

That was my first thought. They are charging a premium since NIB are difficult to find. I think that's too high myself. As has been suggested, I would find a slightly used one in mint condition and save $1500. The extra years of warranty are not worth it since you are not likely to use that.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have a feeling the Mayors sales guy wasn't even aware it's been discontinued. He let me escape too easily when I asked him whether he could come down a bit on the price.

Now that's a different story, I think that is the retail, someone here will correct me if I'm wrong. I feel that all the variants of the Sub are great watches. You might be able to get it cheaper though if you shop around. No need to jump on the first one that you see since the model that you're looking at is a current one.

I bought a 14060M from an AD last October for list $6,300. I thought too that they could only sell up to list price?

$7,500 is way over priced. Would get the the Ceramic bezel if you were looking to spend that. Or save 2-3k and get a 14060M here

This entire thread was based on the premise of the other watch.
So now there is a change in direction but still the same advice. FORGET the AD and get it here on the forum for less either way!

Okay, folks. How much is an AD 4 year warranty worth vs the standard 2 year warranty? Is $7500, list price with 4 year AD warranty a better deal than $7100 with 2 year standard warranty?

I would go with a new one from the FS section. Even if you have to service it in the next four years (which you probably won't), it won't cost anywhere close to the $2500 premium.
