Snaps of Vintage Subs and GMT's in London

Me and my brother visited London yesterday to see the Film Dunkirk in IMAX and enjoyed it immensely!

However, I could not resist another visit to a few watch shops around Piccadilly and ended up spending a bit of time at Vintage Rolex. They had some beautiful examples on display and I ended up snapping a few photos.

Thought I'll share them on here if anyone fancied a look. :)

Geez, the prices are staggering! What was the price of a Pepsi GMT in 1971? $800? And now they're being offered at $12K-$13K. Yikes!

Very nice indeed I wonder if any need a box, I've got an empty Rolex box for a 1970 1675 GMT sitting doing nothing. Maybe they'll swap a watch for a box

I wonder if anyone back in 71 or thereabouts ,had the foresight to buy up some additional Subs/GMTs & store them away . It would be great to hear from anyone who did .

Burlington arcade: poor quality and insane prices. And they will kick you out once they find out you know something about vintage Rolex :-)

Amazing number of watches with a mixture of dials, bracelets, straps and hands. The prices are purely aimed at the less-knowledgeable tourist. Great to look at, decide what you want and then seek a better more honest and certainly cheaper piece!!

I like to gander...I can't believe anyone actually buys anything from those guys...it's a P.T. Barnum proving ground. So is the object of the game you go in and offer 1/3 and work up? That is if in fact any of the dials are original...Now some of the sports models obviously are but on the older watches almost every single one is a refinish.

Trust me, the pictures don't even start to show the incredible number of sports Rolexes they have in the window.

Yeah good catch and its got a service dial. Also, were they putting all red GMT hands on watches that early? I don't know the acceptable range here but i thought it was later...

But hey its 20%off some unknown (hyper-retail) price!

A radial dial in a 1974 gmt?
I think it is a bit early.

Great pictures, thanks.

Thanks for posting, i was there last week not a single Red 1680 in the window whereas there used to be quite a few. It's always worth a look but the prices are a joke.

DD had a lovely 73 original Tudor blue chrono displayed next to a new one, £13k I think

Keep in mind that this is in Piccadilly square. Im sure the prices are inflated like every other tourist trap in the world.

...ah yes, Burlington Arcade......like Carnaby Street for so-sa vintage clothes...is to watches what Denmark Street is to vintage music gear i.e. add a few noughts for luck, change a few parts...'who really cares, just the anoraks...'.... and wax lyrical...turn round 4 times, and hope....

Thanks for the pics but, as others have noted, those prices are silly. I've (recently) seen similar vintage Rolexes up here in the north - in both Newcastle and Harrogate - being offered at around half the prices shown in your photos. The London dealers obviously target the tourists rather than the canny locals!

Stan.

The place in Burlington Arcade has a poor reputation to say the least. They have a no buy back policy. What does that tell you about the quality of the watches or the margins they work on

There's an increasingly rare red sub in BA now. Lots of lovely Pepsis.
