Who is the leading Authority on Really Old School Rolex (1930s and 1940s)?

A good friend wants to go "super old school" in the way of the Great Gatsby

He wants a Rolex from that time period on a leather strap that is correct and original. Where do I begin trying to find something like this for him?

What are some example Rolex from that time?

If I find the right watch for him, I get my Mark 1 Maxidial 5513 back I sold him 7 year ago...so I am anxious to make this happen

How does he define correct and original? I'd say the attached is a Dennison case one.

As correct as it can be in terms of correct dial and hands. Same rules you'd apply to any other vintage.

Gatsby was written in 1923 - 1924...it is sort of set in the early 20's...

You likely wouldn't have seen a Rolex in the USA at that time...scarce if so...

You are going to be looking at gent's cases...non oyster...this is pre Prince era even as they began in 1928.

Really wrist watches were barely a blip during this time period.

You are probably really looking for something a little later.

Princes are totally happening but consult an expert...tons of fakes as they were very popular before everything else vintage became popular.
