"Swiss" vs "Swiss Made"
Hi
In researching a 1954 Datejust 6305-1, I got intrigued (suspicious) by its having the word "Datejust" in black rather than red, but even more so by the "Swiss Made" rather than the "Swiss" I see in photos of that model. Anybody have information on either of these anomalies ? Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

54 is a bit late for SWISS MADE...I would say late 52 early 53 is the end of that. Depending on the model not beyond the real of possibilities...dj being a bit less popular in those days...that pesky new fangled calendar deal...clogging up the dial and costing an extra 20.00 or so...
Photos...can tell a lot of the story. |

6305 followup with photo
Based on lists of serial numbers I have found online, this one was manufactured in 1953 (serial number in the 97xxxx range, just before Rolex hit 1 million and started over with the serial numbers in 1954, I think). I cannot find any other 6305-1 shown on the web, which is labeled "Swiss Made". Anyway, here is a photo of a watch I saw recently, which led to this post. I'm concerned that it might be a replacement dial:

Looks like a refinished early 60s dial to me.
