What is chamfer?

Just read a post relating to a vintage 16750 that mentioned 'chamfer' ......
What exactly is that referring to?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamfer

On a vintage Rolex check the outer edge of the lugs, if your watch has never been polished or polished lightly by a professional you may still be able to see them. Chamfers are something to appreciate as they are harder and harder to come by with all this polishing going on!

Also watches prior to the 80's have a more pronounced Chamfer.

I've had my 16750 for 26 years and it's been serviced and polished multiple times. No sign of chamfer on mine. Don't recall it ever did, but I guess I never looked for it. Interesting.

It looks great!
I noticed that the endlinks just reaches out between the lugs. Is this because the top/end of the lugs were slightly polished at some point?

No, in fact I think that marvel has never been polished. I am sure Jason can let us know. The endlinks are a bit flimsy so they tend to sag a bit, its quite normal.

Agree.

End links were a disaster when these were made.

ROLEX made em so many ways as they really ever never fit like they should.

They could be found protruding beyond the mid casing.

They always were flimsy "tuna cans" and lost their shape due to who knows what.

Some didnt even fill the void where the link met the mid case line where the bezel and case meet...

Okay, thanks. It looks great nevertheless.

It seems like vintage Rolexes from late '70 has a lesser pronounced chamfer. Can anyone clarify if this is actually true?

Does anyone know why Rolex stopped putting a chamfer on the super cases? It seems like a chamfer would help the case from getting beat up on the edges.
