6150 automatic winding

I understand that the automatic rotor on my 1953-6150 pre-explorer only winds the watch in 1 direction. Any idea which direction? I have been gifted a winder for Christmas which will wind in either direction but I cant work out which. I believe that my DJ will wind in either direction so it does not matter but the A296 mechanism in the Explorer is unidirectional.

If I were you, I would not use a winder for an uncomplicated automatic movement of that vintage. It will cause excessive wear of the movement parts, as it is effectively running continuously. Since there is no slow-set date (or moonphase, or whatever), only simple time, it is very easy to set and wind the watch when you want to wear it. I have my 1680 on a winder, but have used it for nothing older than a cal. 1570/1520.

Agreed. Absolutely no need to put unneeded wear on a vintage movement.

Thanks for the advice, makes sense, I will only use the winder on the DJ when I am wearing the Explorer.
