I see, I'll be on the look out for one. It definitely does look great on your field dial 7809 there. I wonder if any of that variation were sent to Greenland..

Thanks.. for whatever reason I'm always drawn to the chapter rings that show sub-minute gradations, gives it a bit of a scientific look you don't see much anymore.

I think they did - Ross Povey reckoned so, too. Not this actual one, though - it has the original owner's initials engraved on the case back, and they don't match those of anyone on the Greenland team list.

I should probably get it checked out for those masses of radium, but I'm sure something else will get me first...

"The 34mm may be regarded as 'small' watch in today standard."

Really? Some of the larger sizes today look ridiculous. Are you wearing the watch or is the watch wearing you?

I am certainly fan of smaller watch especially the 34mm :)

Definitely a classic size, especially with the Rolex case. Love my 34mm AK. The oyster case design tends to make it feel and wear a bit larger than the 34mm specs would suggest.

Agreed, the height of the case due to the early rotor movement designs makes a big difference. For time-only watches I think 34-36mm is ideal.

Yeah, mine hasn't left my wrist much lately and I kind of wonder how potent the 50s Tudor dials are myself. You have much bigger plots to deal with there however

I probably wear it one day every couple of months, so hopefully OK with the radium.

I like the 1950s Rolex and Tudor 34 mm watches for their varied dials and Hand sets, much more interesting than later references
Take my 6518, Creamy waffle dial with applied Rolex logo, Lovely indices, blue seconds hand and a roulette date wheel .

One of my favorite watches I ever owned was a 34mm 6426. I sold that watch man years ago, but I would love to have another. The watch wore well, it was simple and elegant. I love hand cranking watches as well.

I own the 6426 too and this reference is actually will bear double reference number like 6426 or 6427. And the dial will have Oyster Royal text. Quite unique one I must say!

I like these 34mm sizes too. Easy wearing, comfortable, not too flashy. Here's my daily user. Always been a fan of engine turned bezels too.

28mm Ref. 3478. There's nothing wrong with smaller size watches; they're very legible and you're hardly aware they are on your wrist.

Love the 5701. Did they all come with two tone bracelets?

34mm now becoming more sought after now as the big (post- 42mm) watch craze is over helped by some serious watch tifosi and celebs (eg Gosling) wearing them rather than the bigger pieces get them while they are still back of the sofa money - ok not my sofa...but you get the point !

Some real beauties in this thread.

It does beg the question, why did Rolex stop producing OP’s and DJ’s in solid Gold?

Also, I think all modern Rolex would look so much better going back to the open 6’s and 9’s. I’ve always felt that was one of Rolex identifying hallmarks on their watches, until it wasn’t.

The dial colour is actually silver but it reflects current lighting conditions in subtle ways. It's one of the things I like about the watch, along with the bezel of course.
