This confirms Rolex sees the SD43 line as a XL Submariner. We all thought it was but Rolex will be moving PM into the SD line. It’s not a bad thing for those that want a larger dive watch. TT is getting more popular on the real world outside this forum.

Exactly. TT is getting hot now. I see it everywhere and on heaps of social media.

Wouldnt be surprised if TT is offered on more lines next year

It could also be that Rolex saw the success of the CHNR and thinks they can capitalize with more TT references.

I didn’t think of that, Devildog did.

Personally, I’m not a fan and feel that some things should be sacred and a SS Seadweller is one of them.

Nothing surprises me any more.

Would people be more excited with the new SD if it had the sunburst “Bluesy” face rather than black?? I bet the excitment level would be different if it were a blue release.....

I’ll never understand when people get upset about things like this. It’s like when people cry about movie remakes/reboots. You do know the original still exists, right?

It's going to be a big seller for Rolex, even though it isn't going to appeal to the general watch forum population.

I like it. Although not for everyone I think it will accommodate a certain market.

Ill believe it when I see it. I see plenty of two tone subs sitting around in cases. Is it because the sub is too small for the everyday two tone fan?

What if the SD43 was a big Bluesy??? The black TT Sub was never the recent favorite.

I'd probably buy one if it was a bigger Bluesy 100%

Honestly it looks good just like the TT Black dialed Sub - that looks good too.

And this piece will sell no problems at all. Might not be as hot as the bluesy but Rolex will have no problems selling this piece.

2) The general population that do wear watches (and are not WIS) still wear larger watches, so the 43mm most certainly has an appeal in that regard.

3) Imagine the guy who has done well for himself and wants to reward himself with a Rolex. Doesn't know watches. Goes in, wants something gold and beefier than a standard 40mm Submariner (because 40mm is small for some people) = TT SD43.

I feel like it's not so much about the heritage anymore as it is just pure aesthetics. Non-WIS could care less that the SD has always been THE tool watch. It's bigger, it's got gold, it's a Rolex.
Well put! Think you have summed things up accurately! The only people bothered are the WIS. These watchesd will continue to be swallowed up.

X2 and in 40mm. TT SD4K for next year. Or perhaps the year after. After the full yg SD43. I do feel people's anger though. This release is very uncharacteristic. Normally models debut in precious metal. Not come out in TT after decades of being the serious deep dive utility watch. Rolex execs have gone nuts. Too much coke lately perhaps.

Just when I thought that Rolex was on the right track, maybe even revising other models in their lineup with the slimmer lugs of the SD, they come out with this!

What's the problem? The non-WIS will buy this TT instead of the SS you're all having a tough enough time getting now. Won't this just take some pressure off SS?

Spot on. SD/DSSD should remain all SS as an homage to their original tool watches. Now a PT sub would be nice.

This seems to indicate that the SS version of the SD43 has been a success in sales and want to get more juice to such a beautiful model, for me the most beautiful on the diver market.

Rolex found it hard to sell the previous SD, poor for sale all, and of course it would have been crazy to make them more expensive even with a TT version, this indicates what I have repeated, the first successful SD in sales has been the SD43.

By adding the cyclops, increase the size and create perfect proportions made it HOT for the public, Rolex laughs of those who think that it should not have cyclops or should be 40mm, saying I sold it to you for 50 years and most of you did not buy it, now I sell this 43mm like hot bread.
I agree. I may be in the minority in this but I also feel the TT SD43 is a beautiful watch that will likely gain popularity like the Bluesy.

From a product lineup standpoint the TT SD43 will meet the need of those customers who want a large Rolex with luxury appeal. It achieves two objectives: large wrist presence and luxury.

Completely agree with all that you said. I also showed people in my family who are not into watches and they all went right to the new two tone SD picture above all other new models as the one they liked.

Why not?

This is the reality: watches are jewelry. No one outside the WIS community thinks "heritage" or "tool watch."

Personally I think it's the ultimate TT model for those who like such a thing (not for me however, I'm firmly in the SS camp.)
