[QUOTE=lllouisv1126;10714407]Did some homework and spoke to a few ADs, friends
Skydweller seems really nice with good complications and fluted bezel but is it hard to get?

......................
The SkyDweller is not usually available in the short term from an AD, but for the white and black dial versions, is available and in stock from resellers at a moderate price above MSRP. In my opinion, that price is still a good deal for the watch.

Advice on 1st Rolex for an AP owner

I’d suggest

1. Daytona in PM with the OF bracelet. Huge contrast with the RO in all steel. I’d recommend the 519 or 515 depending on what your preference on PM may be.

2. TT CHNR. Grabs more wrist time than my AP tbh. Stunning in the metal and great as a daily beater. Hard to spot in the wild despite more people starting to take an interest in it.

Thanks for all your suggestions and questions - really appreciate them.

What draws me to Rolex is, after years of ‘avoiding’ them in my watch collecting journey, I have started to appreciate the robustness, versatility and innovation of the brand.
For my first Rolex I hope to get something with the above characteristic and hopefully within 30k usd. Can be two tone/ PM as long as it’s not too loud.

I guess this pretty much points me to all the hot models, which means I have to go grey as I have no relationship with a multi-brand AD. (All my APs are from AP boutique). That could be one way.

I am also considering to start a relationship with a new AD. Hence would like to hear from the experts here which obtainable model they would recommend.

Have a good day!

Have you checked to see if your AP boutique is actually owned by a multi-brand AD? If it is, your SA at the AP boutique might be able to point you in the right direction...

A DD in platinum or WG is fairly understated. No one knows what you are wearing except for fellow collectors.

Daydate 36 128345 RBR rainbow dial day date. Should fit in nicely with your collection. Also ultra unique piece,.

Closing this thread.. with happy ending.

Appreciate all ur advice. Went for the Rootbeer and it came to me in less than a month’s time, after registering my interest at an AD. (After I made 2 purchases though).

Was mesmerized after seeing it in metal for the first time. My concern with Rolex was always the wrist time it may not get, since I own an AP with arguably the best blue dial and best bracelet in the industry.

But this root beer, is in a class on its own and does not even try to compete with any other sports watches. Like a well mannered and composed gentleman. The warmth of the chocolate and black bezel, and occasional sparkle of the rose gold bezel edge, matches perfectly with the two tone bracelet.

With my current 3 watches - PAM 111, Royal Oak 15500 blue and Root beer (sold my ROO) - I think I have reached my destination. The journey was fun and it’s time to enjoy the scenery, at least for some time.

Congratulations on the choice of an excellent reference. Your words describing the CHNR would make even Rolex proud. Enjoy your new timepiece, great addition to your collection.

That’s a nice three watch combo. I agree with everything you said. I don’t know you but can “feel” how it suits you.

Can I ask how long did you wait to get the blue APRO? And what you had to do to get it?

BTW, this is how you should be asking about getting into Rolex! Thank you for not bringing up the “investment” angle.

Awesome! Loving the Rootbeer love. I'm likely selling my BLNR as I've finally been offered an opportunity to get my grail. Having the CHNR made the choice to offload the BLNR nice and easy. Hope you continue to enjoy your collection. I'm liking these more modest, concentrated small collections!

Awesome pickup with the root beer. IMO it really makes and suits your collection! I can guarantee based on your initial impressions that you’re going to be back for more hot Rolex ;).

Rolex may not have the most sophisticated bracelet when next to an AP, but they make the most well balanced, comfortable and bullet proof watches that money can buy. Congrats again!

A DD40 is not as easy The classic YG white/Romans. I have been waiting 4 weeks from
My AD. And he got me a Pepsi in 10 days, a Daytona in 6 months , and a PP Aquanaut I. 7 month a DJ41 blue Fluted SS in a day. So DD is way to go but pending your dial/gold color selection.

I waited slightly less than a year for the 15500 blue. Walked in to AP boutique looking for watch for my wife and myself and was told initially by them that RO 15500 blue or 15202 is only for existing clients and vip. But 15450 blue was possible if I get a ladies royal oak. We tried on the watches and pushed for 15500 blue. SA came back a few days later (I suppose to get management’s approval) and took my deposit. All these were in early 2019 though I think situation is tougher now.

So you were able to get your blue APRO without history or prior purchase?

What should my first Rolex be? Has to be a model I can get immediately from AD as I’m not playing the AD game.

It’s shameful to say but I know very little about the brand (except for the hot pieces Pepsi, Daytona etc.). I kinda like the fluted bezel of a datejust.

Current watch: Pam 111, AP RO 15500 blue, AP ROO 42mm
You can get most precious metal watches of every Rolex variety without a wait in almost all cases. Stainless steel pieces are the only ones where you would likely have to wait without an existing AD relationship.

You can buy anything in the gray market and have it tomorrow you are prepared to pay a premium
