Daytona 116520 vs Daytona 116500 ceramic
I am one of the few who likes the previous Daytona 116520 better than the current Daytona ceramic 116500?
What do you think? |

Are we choosing the one we like better or worse?

I owned a 16520 white dial and both colors of 116520. I prefer the tweaked features of my black dial 116500.

IMHO the white dial 116500 may be the perfect watch.

Vote for Daytona 116520, the first Daytona with Rolex caliber inside. Daytona ceramic 116500 is a restyling but not a new Daytona. The new Daytona will arrive next years.

Although there is an appeal to both, and I have never owned the 520 - I vote 500 for the ceramic bezel.

I don't like the black ceramic bezel on the Daytona at all, I prefer it's predecessor.

The non ceramic wins this one. It will always be the first iteration with the inhouse movement. Next, it’s closer to its tool watch DNA without the ceramics. With the white model, the ceramic is very stark black against white-which is a sportier look. I find the 116520 slightly more versatile on that account as it blends in better. I saw the white ceramic in person and it just looked less integrated. This is not an issue with the black ceramic version however. I look at the ceramic versions really like I would the Sub and sub date. The ceramic is not an upgrade really because the benefit is offset by its higher tendency to fail or be cracked and added cost with that. I also don’t consider 40+ year old “technology” an upgrade no matter how rolex tries to market it.

Agree the 116500 is better than 116520 in white, but I'll argue it also looks good in black. White is sexier and black is more elegant IMO. |
