16750 Pepsi No Date Gloss Dial Question
Hi,
I have a 16750 that appears to have the glossy dial that was printed with no "date" next to "oyster perpetual". I think it's the dial that became known as the spider dial, but it seems to be in a strange condition with bubbling and fine scratches. Possible water damage, or refinished? The 10 also looks repaired. The hands have also concerned us, notably with the red not going all the way down. Does it look like this could be a factory dial with factory hands? My limited understanding is this was a very limited production run with this configuration. It is a 8.3 million serial number. Thank you |

The no date dial is correct for your early serial, and indeed, a lot of these early white gold surround dials did go on to develop into spider dials
Yours seems to be doing something completely different however The hands are later service dials The red gmt hand is correct (in that the red should NOT go all the way down to the triangle at the bottom) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Wrt 10 plot - rolex were pretty slapdash filling lume into these white fold surrounds back in the early 80s - a lot of examples had slightly incomplete lume placed in the 12 triangle for example My 16750 below, but there are many similar on the www I think on your watch, the 10 plot is original, its just that some lume has fallen out ( as it wasnt filled properly or had an trapped air bubble or something) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I dont think the 10 index is original to the watch. Its not the same as the others. Im more curious to know how did all these scratches get there- around the GMT- MASTER writing....
Also, one picture shows bubbles above the GMT-MASTER and the other shows scratches?! |

Maybe something got loose at one point and started rolling around and scratching the dial while being worn? They don't seem uniform enough for the hands to be bent and scratching in a circular motion. Anyone ever seen bubbles like these on this watch? |

As we say here in Dallas...that dial has been rode hard and put up wet. It has damage suffered through decades of use and probably some misuse.
The 24-hour hand is original Rolex but all four hands have been replaced with much later luminova hands that still glow under UV light. Additionally, it appears someone changed out the 10 o'clock marker - which is smaller than the other markers. If you need help with anything, I'm located in the DFW metroplex.
