16750 in near factory new condition

If anyone wants to see what a 16750 case looked like when new then Hackett Watches in London have currently got a close to NOS condition one for sale on their website. Still has the green sticker on the back and is untouched, comes with punched papers, boxes and even comes with original sales receipt. £25,000 sounds a lot but doesn’t seem too bad considering what some of the mass produced modern stuff seems to be selling for these days (GMT’s, Subs etc). Their description of the watch is quite modest - I’ve been in the shop and seen it in person and it’s as close to new as I’ve ever seen in 30 years of collecting. It’s stunning.

Based on the skinny lugs which are much thinner than any of the GMT 16750s that I have owned, would indicate to me that the case has been refinished. Also, the bezel (not the bezel insert) looks to be a service bezel. For me, this 16750 is not close to NOS or original.

Below is one of my GMT 16750 sets that I considered to have original lugs as well as the bezel.

£25,000 surely that's nearly £10k too much - this was full set £6000 in early 2017 and £15-17k tops now.

Springer, I think you’d need to see the watch in person (like I have) or see some better photos of the lugs. There is no way this watch has been touched. The lugs look far thicker in person than the angle of the sales photos.

I’ve been collecting Rolex over 30 years and I’m super fussy about case thickness (having brought one or two watches in my early days where I was never happy with the thickness of the lugs after purchase).

I've been collecting for decades myself. I looked at all the photos posted on this watch. It has a service bezel and my opinion on the lugs is as I posted in my other response. Sorry to disagree but I called it as I see it based on the photos.

Brushed surface on top of the lugs does not NOS original either……

As stated above, this case appears refinished. The chamfers are too wide/flared for this era/model. Look how straight they are on Springer's example above.

It's a very nice watch and set, albeit way over-priced, but the description is exaggerated, to say the least.

Thanks, OP, for posting. It's another good lesson for hobbyists who are shopping for vintage Rolexes. Always be skeptical, especially when terms like "NOS" are used.

Refinished case. Proceed with caution.

Thanks for sharing, love this era.

Whatever it is, it surely looks good, and it's always nice to come across such examples.
