Case back thickness

Hi guys

On an earlier thread the water resistance rating on GMT versus Submariner came to question, so I did some research on my own on the differences in the tickness of the case back.
I will have to add to this list as the watches come into my shop for repair, but this is what I got so far from the watches I'm currently working on. Please keep in mind, the mm gauge I'm using is old, and might not be accurate up to 0.02mm.

GMT Master 16750 - 0.72mm
Submariner 16610 - 1.51mm (more than twice the tickness of the old GMT)
Lady's DJ (older) 69174 - 0.50mm
Lady's DJ (newer) 79174 - 0.49mm
Gent's DJ (older) 16013 - 0.75mm
Gent's DJ (newer) 16233 - 0.81mm

Nope, this info isn't posted anywhere by my knowledge. The numbers I posted are the ones I measured today on watches that I have in for repair. I doubt I'll see the DSSD anytime soon for repair!

Thanks for the info...by 'SD 4000' I meant the CLASSIC SD...not the DSSD.

These darn SD's just keep on ticking!

Great info! As we discussed, it will be interesting so see what a 116710 or the like has for thickness in contrast.

Oops, sorry! All these numbers got me confused! You're right, but I won't ever have a SD in repair, because those go to the factory anyways. I do not have the equipment to test to 4000ft so I cannot get parts for it...

Very useful information, Vanessa, especially the bit about not being able to test the SD.

Great info, Vanessa.

The Sub caseback thickness of 1.51 mm is impressive. By the same token, can we assume that the caseback thickness of the YM (40 mm) would be the same as the Sub?

Thanks - JJ

isn't YM's WR rating 100m as well? I checked the thickness using naked eye between my Sub and my GMT, there is visible difference. Also, I compare it with a Daytona from a friend, Sub's caseback was also thicker than daytona visibly.

Vanessa, thanks for the info.

How about the 14060M? Same as the 16610? Somewhere I saw that the case thickness of the 14060M is .2mm thinner than the 16610.

Well, I have an early 16628 YM (N26XXXX 1991/1992) and I opened her up...

I remembered to measure the caseback thickness before I put her back together.

0.84mm

I can also confirm, this is the same thickness as the 16710 or 16718 casebacks. (See photo)
