Value, liquidity, and margin of safety with YG DDD
Thinking about purchasing a preowned day date 36mm and am wondering if i decided to sell in the future how much of a loss I might take and how long it might take to sell?
Of the existing models, what is a fair price range for each and what do you think represents the best value? 1803? 18038? 18238? 118238? I realize this is all dependent upon price but many people talk about buying a high demand watch such as a sub and selling at a slight loss or even profit and essentially wear the watch for free. If one were not in a hurry to sell down the road, is there such a thing as a margin of safety? |

my 2 cents: buy what you like to enjoy...not to speculate on future values (way too many variables)

118238 would be the most desirable of the bunch in my opinion. I would expect to take a loss of around 8% if you buy right. As low as possible that is and used. These are slower moving on the secondary market.

If you want liquidity then get a Submariner.
Anything gold is going to be less liquid/ likely to take a larger loss, if you decide you want to sell in the future. |

The newer the watch is, the more it will lose value until it reaches it's lower level. So, an older one at the right price is likely to be the best value-per-dollar.
If you decide to sell, it will be on the market for 72 days and 14 hours, about.

Not going to discuss price ranges as we aren't an appraisal site but your results will vary by the demand at the time you sell. And having a recent overhaul before reselling as well as condition matters too.
The risks rise with the newer ones as already said. So if it were me, an 1803 on a strap would have the best residual value IMHO.

The more expensive the watch the longer it will take to sell. Even if you buy right. You have to find someone with that much money lying around who is actually Interested.
