Full Carbon Rolex Daytona

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know what you all think about those fully carbon (ntpt) Daytonas from DiW?

I think they look awesome! Like a modern, more sporty look on them. Pretty close to what Richard Mille would do, if he ran Rolex

There's too much hype on the steel ones, but I believe the price on those can get higher at some point.

Cheers!

Looks like a watch my 3 year old grand daughter would wear.

A bit out there but I don’t hate it, as CF watches go.

A Rolex, it is not!

As these are no longer Rolex retail watches moved to the non Rolex watch forum, and anyone buying one of those IMHO abominations must be sixpence short of a shilling.

If you have a whole bunch of other watches and a whole bunch of extra money, why the heck not? Watch people will probably hate on it, but it seems a little bit fun if you had some cash to just blow and don't care what anyone thinks. You got have F U money though to pull it off.

Well the movement definitely is! I do actually think a Carbon Daytona looks badass, but of course is remains in the eye of the beholder. The 4130 calibre is in there, reliable as always, but in an upgraded body. Still pretty much Art.

I still wonder why this thread was moved to the non-Rolex, in despite that many "Artisans de Geneve", "Pro hunter", "Bamford" and others can still be found in the main topic....

Probably because the only “Rolex” part of this watch is the movement. A Rolex, this is not.

Interesting for sure but no way that’s NTPT since that’s the designation for the composites that are made by North Thin Ply Technologies which is a company wholly owned by RM.

Because all that is still Rolex in the watch you posted is the movement. If I stuck a real movement in a fake case with a fake dial and fake hands could I call it a Rolex? No, it would still be a fake. At least those other brands still use a serialized Rolex case which originated directly from Rolex.

A lot of mysteries on the forum. Try posting any topic about replicas and it just gets deleted, regardless if it's informative or a warning on how to spot them. Never understood that at all.

I only like it as an occasional watch. I have a Jacob and co 5 time zone that, while I’m not comparing its quality to your Rolex, in terms of flashiness it’s similar. I like having it for rare occasions I feel like being bold. If you have the ability, why not! It’s a gorgeous watch but not everyone can pull it off
You go!

Actually, that's one of the first question when I saw the photo.

When do we consider a watch a "fake"? This one has a "aftermarket" case, a "redial". If only the movement, lets say the crown and the pushers are genuine Rolex, is this a "fake"?

I don't think that got anything to do with how well the case or dial are done, nor how much they cost.

The way I look at this is that this is a custom watch with Rolex movement and parts in it, not a "genuine" Rolex.

I wouldn't want to spend $40k on a fake Rolex. Maybe its just me ...

Full Carbon Rolex Daytona

Would need to know more details about what is original & modified (i.e. the dial) vs. What is aftermarket before it can be determined as a fake.

It does start to get into more of a philosophical question which is equally interesting really.

Is it ok to swap an OEM bracelet to aftermarket and still call it a Rolex ?

If that’s ok, what about some components of the case, or the sapphire crystal or even the whole case ?

As long as nobody has infringed copyright or design rights then it’s really down to the description of the watch if it’s technically ‘fake’ with the intention to deceive (which this clearly isn’t) or just a heavily modified watch with non OEM parts.
