My new SD (LOTS of pics!!)

Hi everyone,

If you remember my story, I was hunting all over Ontario for a new SD. Well, I found out May 15 that I got into Medicine at Queen's Univ. in Kingston, ON, so it was time to treat myself!

Here's my SD M-serial. BTW, I had read somewhere that the SD doesn't come with the calendar - this is not true, at least not in my case.

Some photos:

Dwelly and I have been out for a stroll

Regarding time-keeping, with the face up at night, the watch loses about 0.5 seconds every 36 hours. Last night, I keep the watch 'standing up' (i.e. dial vertical and perpendicular to the table) and it is now 4 seconds slow. Clearly, I need to keep it face up!

Also, do new watches tend to gain slightly over a few weeks? If it gains 0.5 seconds, it should be bang-on by keeping the face up at night.

I'm really loving this watch!

Please don't hesitate to PM for my Word document re. prices and experiences at 10 Ontario AD's. If I can be of any other help, please PM me, too!

Take care,

SNB

Thanks...I even caught the laser etched coronet multiple times! All by accident, too.

Thanks for the wishes. I am very excited!

I will post more pics when I get the chance. These were just some quick shots fired off today, with marginal composition and lighting techniques.

Hey, great minds think alike! You're certainly capable with a camera and have a good eye for showing off your watch to best advantage.

By the way, many congratulations on your success getting into Queens University - fantastic news.

Thanks very much!

I took photography in Grade 11 (i.e. a LONG time ago!). We did things the hardcore old-school way: 1970's Pentax manual SLR, Ilford films, developed the films manually in light-proof bags and containers with developer, stop, and fix solutions, then we used darkroom techniques to expose our own prints using enlargers and photo paper. EVERYTHING was done by ourselves, and when a great picture came out, you KNEW how much effort went into it. THAT was truly satisfying! Oh yeah...black & white, of course!

These darn DSLR's these days...too easy!

I will post a couple of my old pics from then to show you what came out!

Wow, that certainly sounds like you learned all about the basic elements of photography from the ground up. But, at least you know the mechanics of the art in a way that a digital 'point-and-shoot' approach nowadays can never emulate.

Can't wait to see some examples of your vintage photography!

Just looked at these great pics again.

Must say that lately I get mixed feelings when seeing pics of the great SD.

I simply LOVE the SD, but I also get kinda sad when thinking about the fact that it is no more made!

Anybody feel the same way? I.e: Loving to see the SD but hating to feel sad about its discontinuation??

I'm just glad I got it when I did, and that things worked out!
